Owensboro and Apollo split, while Hancock County split with Breckinridge County. In other action, Owensboro Catholic swept Meade County.
Owensboro Vs. Apollo
In a 9th district matchup, Owensboro’s boys’ tennis team beat Apollo 9-0, while the girls’ team lost 5-4. For the Red Devils, John Ford, Miles McDaniel, Broderick Divine, Kash Mourman, Malic Browder, and Lane Littlepage all won their singles matches, while the doubles teams of Walker Gaddis and McDaniel, Andrew Diebel and Divine, and Elton Smith and Luke Wilborn all won. For the Lady Devils, Addie Travis and Drew Crandall won their singles matches, while the team won two doubles matches.
For the E-Gals, Sophey Jennings, Maddie Ebelhar, Jessie Pate, and Morgan Shook all won their singles matches, while Erin McManus and Ebelhar won their doubles match.
Hancock County Vs. Breckinridge County
Hancock County tennis split with Breckinridge County as the boys’ won 5-0 and the girls’ fell 3-2. For the Hornets, Lukas Anderson, Tyce Boiling, and Payne Pence won their singles matches, while the doubles teams of Preston Blanton and Caleb Ewing and Tre London and Van Reska both won. Ella Cason and Adrianna Tayler both won their singles matches for the Lady Hornets.
“I thought the boys played dominant tennis tonight,” Hancock County head coach Dan Hopkins said. “I think we found our strongest lineup and Payne, Reska, and Tre are all undefeated at their new positions. The girls lost a heartbreaker. Even though Ella didn’t play well, she showed a lot of heart in her win. Props to two of our new girls, Hayleigh and Adrianna, who played tough and are getting better. We have the rest of the week to prepare for the stretch run.”
Owensboro Catholic Vs. Meade County
It was a dominating performance for Owensboro Catholic, as both the boys and girls’ teams beat Meade County 5-0. For the Lady Aces, Ella Cason, Madison Clark, and Lexie Moyers all won their singles matches, while the doubles teams of Meredith Traylor and Sophia Merchant, and Gabi Moyers and Mary Grace Edge both won. On the boys’ side, Jack Haines, Joseph Merchant, and John Wathen all won, while the doubles teams of Houston Danzer and Ben Haines and Ollie Haines and Henry Haines were victorious.
“Ella Cason and Jack Haines led the way with big wins at number one singles,” Owensboro Catholic head coach Noel Clayton said.
