When Kamryn Timmons returned to the mound in the top of the second, her offense handed her a 4-0 lead, a luxury she took advantage of. Pitching with extra confidence, she attacked with her fastball and mixed up her pitches. The sophomore allowed one earned run over five innings, striking out eight in Daviess County’s 13-1 win over Castle.
“I always trust my offense and I always trust my girls,” Timmons said. “From top to bottom, they are athletes and play like athletes. They will get on no matter what it takes.”
Timmons set the tone in the top of the first, throwing a 1-2-3 inning on only 10 pitches. Leading off for the Lady Panthers, Sadie Morris walked, stole second, and then advanced to third on a groundout. Annie Newman immediately drove her in on a ground out, her first of three RBIs on the night. A double, single and walk all with two outs loaded the bases for Briley Henry, who delivered. The first basemen singled and an error on the play cleared the bases and gave Daviess County a 4-0 lead.
“Kam did a nice job and they have some kids at the top of their lineup that area really good hitters,” Daviess County head coach John Biggs said. “She did a good job in the first inning of shutting them down. We shut them down and scored four in the bottom, which set the tone for the game. She came back in the second inning, held them to zero runs, and then we scored two more.”
Daviess County scored two more runs in the bottom of the second on a Shelby Bennett sac fly and a Newman single. Castle scored their lone run in the top of the fourth, but Timmons pitched herself out of the jam and stranded the bases loaded. In the bottom of the fourth, the Lady Panthers scored five more runs to make it 13-1, highlighted by a three-run triple by Danielle Beckwith.
Newman and Beckwith combined for three hits and six RBIs, while Kylie Clark went 2-2 with a walk. Everyone in the lineup had at least one hit, including Timmons, who finished 2-2.
“At the plate, I have things I still need to work on, like pitch selection,” Timmons said. “I think I pitched well. I trust myself, I trust my catcher as well, and I trust Coach Biggs with the pitch selection. I thought my pitches were working well, and if they weren’t, then I just have to dial back in. Coach and I have a great relationship where we can discuss what is and isn’t working.”
Hancock County 4, South Spencer 2
Bella Bryant was dominant on the mound, allowing two earned runs over seven innings, while striking out seven in the Lady Hornets’ 4-2 win over South Spencer. Madyson Higdon and Ansley House both drove in runs, while Baylee Estes scored twice and finished 2-4.
Edmonson County 1, Owensboro 0
Runs were scared to come by in what became a real pitcher’s duel, as Edmonson County scored in the top of the seventh to beat Owensboro 1-0. Alyssa Rhineburger threw a complete game, allowing one earned run over seven innings, striking out four. She also finished 1-3 at the plate, while Kaysi Burden went 2-3.
