Daviess County, Owensboro Catholic, and Trinity (Whitesville) all won, while Owensboro fell on the road.

Daviess County 4, Hopkinsville 1

Gavin Howard finished 2-3 with two RBIs and a triple to fuel Daviess County to a 4-1 win over Hopkinsville 4-1. Logan Mewes went 2-2, while Noah Ranburger, Lucas Ward, and M Russ had the Panthers’ three other hits. Mewes started on the mound, giving up one run (unearned) over 4 1/3 innings, while Brett Poole pitched out of the bullpen.

“Mewes threw the ball well and the middle of our lineup really created some offense today,” Daviess County head coach Clay Austin said. “Brett Poole closed it out again for us in relief. He has thrown well all year.”

Tampa Preparatory School (Tampa), FL 5, Owensboro 1

Owensboro fell behind early and never fully recovered, losing to Tampa Prep 5-1. Ty Ashley went 2-3 and scored the team’s only run off of a balk in the fifth inning, while Cayden Ray had the Red Devils only other hit. Will Hume allowed four earned runs over three innings, while Nash Miller pitched three shutout innings in relief.

Owensboro Catholic 6, Naperville Central (Naperville), IL 2

Luke Quinn threw a complete game, allowing only two runs over seven innings, while striking out seven to lead the Aces past Naperville Central 6-2. Jaxson White went 2-3 with an RBI, while Jake Murphy added two hits. Parker Heinstand, Brady Atwell, and Chris Burns all drove in runs.

“Luke was really good today. Naperville is a really solid program and has been for years,” Owensboro Catholic head coach Jody Hamilton said. “We beat a D1 pitcher, so I have to feel pretty good about the game. We have a long way to go, but that’s why you schedule this level of competition. They”ll point out your weakness and help you learn.”

Trinity (Whitesville) 16, Casey County 4

Connor Hatfield finished 3-4 with four RBIs to power the Raiders to a 16-4 win over Casey County. Harrison Barnett, Isaac Hernadez, and Grant Howard combined for three hits and seven RBIs, while Camden Aud and RJ Cecil also drove in runs. Cecil also pitched, throwing a complete game and allowing only two runs across five innings, while striking out six.

“It was good to see the boys jump out and take the early lead,” Trinity (Whitesville) head coach Matt Wright said. “They battled through some miscues, but stayed in the game and capitalized on their opportunities at the plate. RJ Cecil pitched a fine game, and I am really proud of his progression. This was a great team win today.”
