It was an eventful day for the local teams, as Owensboro finished 3-0 in their triple header. Owensboro Catholic went 2-0 in their doubleheader, while Daviess County went 1-1. In other action, McLean County fell and Trinity (Whitesville) both lost.
Owensboro 14, McLean County 1
The Lady Devils rode a nine-run first inning to beat McLean County 14-1. Taylor Sowders finished 1-3 with three RBIs, while Kaysi Burden and Elli Embry both had two RBIs. Alyssa Rhineburger allowed one earned run across two innings, while Paislee Hodge threw a shutout inning out of the bullpen.
Abby Walker finished 1-2 with an RBI, while Leah Searcy and Brooklyn Whitworth had two of the Lady Cougars three hits. Maci Gael started on the mound, allowing eight earned runs across 2/3 of an inning.
Daviess County 11, Liberty Creek (Gallatin), TN 1
Annie Newman hit a homer and added four RBIs to lead the Lady Panthers to a 11-1 win over Liberty Creek. Callie Smith and Kylie Clark combined for five hits and four RBIs. Storey Hume threw a complete game, allowing one run across seven innings and striking out eight.
South Warren 8, Daviess County 4
The Lady Panthers had nine total base runners, but couldn’t take advantage of their opportunities, falling to South Warren 8-4. Annie Newman finished 3-4 with a homer, while Molly Hancock went 1-3 with two RBIs. Sophia Cain allowed six earned runs across five innings, striking out three, while Story Hume threw a perfect inning out of the bullpen.
“Against two high-quality opponents, I thought we were able to make some adjustments at the plate and had a lot of quality at bats,” Daviess County head coach John Biggs said. “I thought our pitchers competed and performed well.”
Owensboro 17, Murray 1
The Lady Devils exploded for 11 runs in the third inning, cruising to a 17-1 win over Murray. Hayley Sikes, Ayrish Barksdale, and Alyssa Rhineburger combined for nine of the teams 14 RBIs. Rhineburger allowed one run across one inning, while Braylee Criss threw two shutout innings.
“We finally started to barrel some balls up and find the holes in the field,” Owensboro head coach Quincy Moorman said. “We kept strikeouts to a minimum and limited our defensive mistakes. We were able to get some reps for our newcomers and find out what they could do. Overall, I am very pleased with the day.”
Owensboro 11, Hopkins County Central 4
The Lady Devils Hessi Jonhson finished 2-2, with a homer and three RBIs to power them to an 11-4 win over Hopkins County Central. Hayley Sikes and Elli Embry combined for three hits and five RBIs, while Kierstin Hughes, Addison Hill, and Jalea Sanford all added RBIs. Alyssa Rhineburger threw three perfect innings, while Braylee Criss pitched out of the bullpen.
Owensboro Catholic 12, Christian County 2
Hannah Tignor hit a homer and added four RBIs to power the Lady Aces to a 12-2 win over Christian County. Hannah Robbins had another excellent outing on the mound, allowing one earned run across six innings, while striking out three.
Owensboro Catholic 7, Trigg County 4
Harper Lantham, Lily Logsdon, and Hannah Tignor all combined for six hits and three RBIs to power the Lady Aces to a 7-4 win over Trigg County. Railey Scott got the start, allowing three earned runs across six innings, while Hannah Robbins closed it out.
North Hardin 4, Trinity (Whitesville) 2
Trailing North Hardin 4-1, the Lady Raiders got a run back in the top of the fifth but were unable to complete the comeback, losing 4-2. Sophie Hatfield, Ella Morris, and Madison McDaniel had the team’s lone hits. On the mound, Hatfield threw a complete game, allowing four runs over six innings, while striking out four.
