It was an impressive night for the local area teams, as both Owensboro and Owensboro Catholic picked up their first wins of the season.
Owensboro 3, Butler County 2
The Lady Devils jumped out to an early 3-0 lead and held off a late comeback attempt to beat Butler County 3-2. Owensboro took advantage of Butler County’s mistakes, scoring all three of their runs off of errors.
Alyssa Rhineburger finished 2-4 at the plate and threw a complete game, allowing two runs over seven innings, while striking out six. Addison Hill, Hessi Johnson, and Ellington Embry provided three of the Lady Devils five hits.
“We played much better defensively and we limited the mistakes, especially with runners on base,” Owensboro head coach Quincy Moorman said. “We tweaked some things which seemed to help some, but we still have to do a better job barreling the bull up and stringing hits together. I felt tonight’s game was a step in the right direction.”
Owensboro Catholic 14, Webster County 0
The Lady Aces offense scored seven runs in the second innings, cruising to a 14-0 win over Webster County. Hannah Robbins, Harper Latham, and Lily Logsdon all homered to lead the offense. Emma Riney, Maren Riney, and Hannah Tignor combined for seven hits and five RBIs. Robbins started the game on the mound throwing two shutout innings and striking out two. Railey Scott came on in relief, striking out one over three shutout innings.
“We had a good approach and plate discipline tonight at the plate,” Owensboro Catholic head coach Jeremy Phelps said. “Both pitchers Hannah and Railey worked both sides of the plate in and out. Now we will look to carry momentum into our upcoming games.”
