McLean County’s offense roared alive in the third inning, scoring nine runs en route to their 13-3 win over Madisonville-North Hopkins. The Cougars took a 2-0 lead in the first inning and later broke the game open in the third thanks to RBIs by Layden Bozarth, Hayden Hudson, Jaelin Groves, Connor Mitchuson, and Houston Whitaker.
The Maroons scored two runs in the bottom of the third, but the Cougars responded with a run in the top of the fourth. Both teams scored a team in the fifth before the game was ended due to the run rule.
Bozarth finished 2-4, with two RBIs, while Whitaker was 2-2 with three RBIs. On the mound, Jax Lee made his season pitching debut, not allowing an earned run over four innings, while striking out nine. Bozarth pitched the fifth, allowing one run, and striking out two.
“We played well and showed a lot of patience at the plate,” McLean County head coach Darren Lynam said. “Jax Lee threw well for the first time out this year.”
