The Red Devils beat Apollo in an important district match, while Hancock County won their first game of the Commonwealth Hancock County shootout. In other action, Trinity (Whitesville) fell on the road.
Owensboro 64, Apollo 55
The Red Devils Keaton Hughes scored a game-high 20 points to power Owensboro to a 64-55 win over Apollo. Kade Arnold (12) and Michael Acton (11) both finished in double figures, while Keylen Payton finished with nine points.
For the Eagles, Kobe Kelly scored nine of his team-high 15 points in the second half, while Tate Powers added 14 points. Luke Jarboe was third on the team in scoring with eight points.
“I thought our foul troubling took us out of our game plan some, but their top three scorers who average 57 a game, only had 38 tonight,” Apollo head coach Ryne Tinsley said. “Give Owensboro credit as their other kids stepped up. I thought out kids fought hard and our offensive movement was much better.”
Hancock County 60, Louisville Collegiate 32
Abe Simpson scored a team-high 12 points and added six rebounds to fuel the Hornets to a 60-32 win over Louisville Collegiate. Dec Lewko finished with 11 points, seven rebounds, and two assists, while Dylan Morris added six points, five assists, and four rebounds. Alex Madden recorded a double-double of 10 points and 10 boards.
“We played well. We had a slow start, but really kicked it in the second half,” Hancock County head coach Josh Roberts said. “I’m super proud of the seniors and their leadership. Our defense was a catalyst and our offensive transitions were great.”
Edmonson County 78, Trinity (Whitesville) 42
Thomas Payne led the Raiders in scoring with 14 points, as the loss at Edmonson County 78-42. Kayin Howard was second on the team in scoring with 11 points, while Connor Hatfield added seven points.
