Hancock County and Trinity (Whitesville) both saw their season coming to an end after losing in the semi-finals of their respective district tournament.
Meade County 67, Hancock County 60
Hancock County had an opportunity in crunch time, but was unable to capitalize, falling to Meade County in the 11th district tournament 67-60. Dec Lewko led the way with 17 points, two rebounds, and one steal, while Keegan Wilson added 14 points, nine rebounds, and four assists. Dylan Morris finished with 13 points, four rebounds five assists, and two steals.
“I thought we handled their run in the 3rd quarter and battled back showing poise,” Hancock County head coach Josh Roberts said. “We had our chances at the end, but some things just didn’t go our way. I couldn’t be prouder of the progress our team has made from last season and the start of this season. We were battling some of the best teams in the region down to the wire. I wouldn’t want to coach any other group of kids, they were great. It was a privilege to coach this team.”
Grayson County 78, Trinity (Whitesville) 32
The Raiders had no answer for Jack Logsdon, falling to Grayson County in the semi-finals of the 12th district tournament 78-32.
“We really struggled with their 1-2-2 press, and when we did break it, we struggled to score against their zone,” Trinity (Whitesville) head coach Nathan West said. “Jack Logsdon was phenomenal as the point of their zone, and their easy buckets from their press got their confidence going.”
Connor Hatfield and Will Hernandez led the way with seven points each, while Cale Boarman added six points. Ian Roby (3), Hayden Aull (3), Thomas Payne (2), and Grant Howard (2) rounded out the teams scoring.
“It was a season of ups and downs, especially after Christmas,” West said. “We only won one game after the new but there were several that were winnable games. We just couldn’t seem to put a whole game together or find a rhythm in the second half of the year. However, we did more than triple our win total from the year before and almost all of our numbers (scoring, rebounding, etc.) went up. We definitely got better. I am thankful for my seniors and all of their efforts throughout the season, and I look forward to improving this offseason. We have no juniors in the program, so our sophomores are our next group up. They’ll be ready.”
