Apollo, Daviess County, and Hancock County all won, while Owensboro Catholic and Trinity (Whitesville) both fell on the road.
Apollo 63, Ohio County 54
Trailing by 11 entering the fourth quarter, the Eagles dominated the fourth quarter to beat Ohio County 63-54. Kayden Green led the way with 18 points, while Kobe Kelly hit five threes to go along with his 17 points. Landon Henning was third on the team in scoring with 16 points.
“It was a gutty win after four games this week,” Apollo head coach Ryne Tinsley said. “Both teams you can see the fatigue and give Ohio County a lot of credit. They played really well. Our kids are winners and found a way to win in the fourth quarter. This was the best comeback of my career.”
Daviess County 72, Hopkinsville 40
A night after dropping a heartbreaking in double overtime, Daviess County bounced back with an impressive 72-40 win over Hopkinsville. Jonathan Moss scored 12 of his 20 points in the third quarter and added seven assists, seven rebounds, and one steal. DeAaron Watkins recorded a double-double of 19 points and 14 rebounds, while Joe Varble added eight points and 11 rebounds. Aydan Ayer finished with six points and seven assists.
“It was a solid bounce-back win,” Daviess County head coach Neil Hayden said. “Aydan Ayer and Joe Varble were huge in getting us going after a slow start.”
Hancock County 71, Francis Parker 36
Keegan Wilson exploded for 19 points and Alex Madden added 13 points, seven rebounds, and four assists to power Hancock County to a 71-36 win over Francis Parker. The Hornets finished 2-0 in the Commonwealth Hancock Shootout. Abe Simpson and Dylan Morris both finished with 12 points.
“The boys played great defense and had multiple scorers across the board to carry us to the win today,” Hancock County head coach Josh Roberts said. “Congrats to Dec Lewco and Keegan Wilson for being players of the game in the Commonwealth Hancock Shootout. The Hornets went 2-0.”
Jeffersontown 70, Owensboro Catholic 62
A night after scoring 29, Luke Beickman followed it up with 34 in Owensboro Catholic’s 70-62 loss to Jeffersontown. Down two with the ball and 22 seconds left in the game, the Aces had an opportunity but were unable to capitalize. Davyn Randolph hit two threes to go along with his eight points, while Dre’Mail Carothers added seven points.
“Jeffersontown was the preseason pick to win the 6th region,” Owensboro Catholic head coach Tim Riley said. “It was a great game. It was tough to play after our double overtime win last night. Luke Beickman was really good. They shot an incredible percentage from the free throw line.”
Clinton County 71, Trinity (Whitesville) 37
With some of the roster sick with the flu, Trinity lost to Clinton County 71-37. Connor Hatfield scored a team-high 20 points, while Grant Howard added seven points. Harrison Barnett (6) and Bransen Howard (4) rounded out the team’s scoring.
“We played much better tonight,” Trinity (Whitesville) head coach Nathan West said. “We were still without some players due to the flu, but we battled. They are a big, tough, talented team and I was proud of the way we responded after a tough one last night. Now we have to remain consistent.”
