Apollo’s Landon Thompson has signed with Brescia University to continue his bowling and academic career. The senior is still in season with the Eagles and has been part of the program since arriving as a seventh grader.

Originally Lindsey Wilson College was his number one option, but that changed once Brescia became an opportunity. During his tour, Brescia’s coach told him he believed in him – leaving a lasting impression.

“It was a good fit for me,” Thompson said. “Better education and the bowling team stood out. Athletics were number one.”

Thompson also heard from Northern Ohio and Indiana Weslyn, but staying in Kentucky was a top priority.

“I didn’t want to go like eight hours away,” Thompson said. “I couldn’t do that.”

Since early in his Apollo bowling career, Thompson realized he wanted to compete at the collegiate level and started to hone his craft. He focused on spare shooting and rolling one shot at a time.

“When he came into the Apollo program, his style of bowling was from left to right and they changed that from right to left,” Thompson’s Dad, Chris Thompson said. “That was a totally different unique style for him.”

Now that he is committed to Brescia, Thompson felt a huge cloud of pressure leave his shoulders – allowing him to focus on the rest of his senior season. Having made it to the state tournament in the past, he has his eyes on helping his team return.

“I want to finish the season strong and get back to where I was last year,” Thompson said. “I was a little off this year because I was putting pressure on myself, and I am just hoping not to do that for the rest of the year.”

While at school, Thompson plans to major in mathematics and minor in psychology.
