In a busy night of basketball, Apollo, Daviess County, Owensboro, and Owensboro Catholic all picked up wins, while Hancock County and Trinity (Whitesville) both lost.

Apollo 57, Russellville 49

Kobe Kelly scored six of his team-high 18 points in the fourth quarter to help power the Eagles past Russellville on the road 57-49. Tate Powers added 14 points, seven of which came in the fourth quarter, while Landon Henning finished with seven points.

“It was a solid win on the road, especially since we haven’t played a game in 10 days,” Apollo head coach Ryne Tinsley said. “The kids ground it out and played terrific defense to find a way to close it out.”

Daviess County 84, Butler County 77

In a battle between two of the top teams in the region, the Panthers came out victorious 84-77 behind Jonathan Moss’s 35 points. The junior guard shot 10-15 and was very efficient at the line (11/12). DeAaron Watkins added 21 points, nine rebounds, three steals, and one assist. Aydan Ayer recorded a team-high five assists, while Joe Varble finished with nine points, eight rebounds, two steals, two blocks, and one assist.

“I thought both teams played extremely hard, and it was a fun high school basketball game,” Daviess County head coach Neil Hayden said. “Our team shot the ball well and was strong on the boards. Jonathan was huge scoring 35 as well as DeAaron with adding 21 points. But it was a collective effort and a great win.”

Tell City, In 43, Hancock County 40

Keegan Wilson and Alex Madden combined for 21 of the Hornets 40 points, dropping a heartbreaker on the road to Tell, City IN 43-40. Madden also grabbed seven rebounds, while Wilson added three assists, two rebounds, and one steal. Dylan Morris grabbed a team-high nine rebounds and two steals, while Tyce Boling hit two threes.

“We played a fantastic first half and shot lights out. In the second half, we missed open looks inside and out,” Hancock County head coach Josh Roberts said. “I thought Tell City hit some big shots in the fourth quarter that put pressure on us. We haven’t been in many situations where we have leads and it showed. Knowing who to go to in key spots and executing on offense was key.”

Owensboro 81, Breckinridge County 79

In a nail-biter, the Red Devils were able to leave Breckinridge County with an impressive 81-79 win. Michael Acton scored 15 of his game-high 26 points in the opening quarter, while Keaton Hughes added 20 points. Aaron Richardson and Cameron Day were third on the team in scoring with nine points each.

Owensboro Catholic 69, Grayson County 43

The Aces couldn’t seem to miss from deep, hitting 14 threes to fuel them past Grayson County 69-43. Waryn Ebelhar hit four threes to go along with his 18 points, while Luke Beickman added 17 points. Dre’Mail Carothers recorded a double-double of 16 points and 11 rebounds. Defensively, Owensboro Catholic suffocated the Cougars, holding them to five points in the second quarter.

“Defensively, to hold them to 43 points is really good,” Owensboro Catholic head coach Tim Riley said. “I thought our pressure defense was solid. Offensively, shooting 14/23 from deep will win a bunch of games.”

Meade County 82, Trinity (Whitesville) 53

The Raiders struggled offensively in the first half only scoring 20 points as they fell to Meade County 82-53. Connor Hatfield scored a team-high 14 points, while Hayden Aull added 10 points, including two threes. Ian Roby was third on the team in scoring with seven points.

“Tonight was tough. Their length really affected us,” Trinity head coach Nathan West said. “We missed some shots at the rim early and I think that shook our confidence. It was just a rough night all around.”
