Owensboro’s Will Rickard has signed with Ohio Dominican University to continue his golf and academic career. The senior finished his Red Devils golf career earlier this fall, helping lead his team to a region championship, second-place finish at semi-state, and seventh-place finish in the state finals.
After a recent college visit to the Ohio Dominican campus, Rickard decided to commit.
“I loved the environment, and I love the coach, Rickard said. “I think he’s going to help me be the best player I can be in college. It’s a great school as well and I will be able to get a solid education, and I am excited for the future.”
Over the past year, Owensboro golf head coach Pat Hume infused Rickard with confidence and helped him improve his wedges and putting. Unfamiliar with the process of golf recruiting, Rickard reached out to the coach at Ohio Domitian and called himself lucky for receiving a response.
Despite also playing other sports, sticking with golf at the collegiate level was Rickard’s dream. But it wasn’t until this year that he realized that it was a realistic option.
“It was always the goal, but if you had told me last year, I probably wouldn’t have believed you,” Rickard said. “I worked so hard over the summer, and I play two other sports so it’s really difficult, but I kept practicing and I earned this opportunity. I am really proud of myself for that.”
Rickard added, “I just hope to get the opportunity to play and get better and I am going to trust my coach.”
