Trevor DeLacey and Evan Hampton led the way, fueling Owensboro to a 28-14 win over Henderson County in their regular season finale on Friday. This marked the team’s ninth consecutive win over the Colonels, dating back to 2015.
After holding Henderson County to a three-and-out on the opening possession, the Red Devils marched down the field and took a 7-0 lead thanks to DeLacey finding Hampton for a five-yard touchdown. The defense forced another straight three-and-out on defense before DeLacey found Cayden Ray for a 55-yard touchdown and a 14-0 lead.
The Colonels cut the lead to 14-7 in the second quarter with a 52-yard touchdown drive. Owensboro missed a field goal on their ensuing drive, but Henderson County was unable to capitalize on the field position.
In the third quarter, the Colonels tied the game on a 32-yard rushing touchdown. Henderson County’s comeback woke up the Red Devils, with Hampton and Tee Green both scoring on the ground from 68 and two yards out.
DeLacey finished 9/18 for 188 yards, two touchdowns, and an interception. Hampton ran for 221 yards and two touchdowns on 19 carries. The Colonels’ Jaheim Williams ran for 205 yards and two touchdowns on 27 carries.
After starting the season 1-3, the Red Devils finished the year on a seven-game win streak and will host Ohio County in the first round of the 5A playoffs next Friday.
