Owensboro Catholic clinched the regular-season Class 2A District 2 title in commanding fashion Friday night, blanking Fort Campbell 50-0 and extending their perfect season to 9-0.
The Aces took control early, with senior quarterback Brady Atwell finding Hudson Ebelhar for a 10-yard touchdown pass, followed by a successful kick to open the scoring. Atwell continued his strong showing in the first quarter, connecting with senior Dereon Crowe on a 14-yard pass and adding a two-point conversion run, pushing the Aces’ lead to 15-0. Just minutes later, Atwell struck again with a 26-yard touchdown pass to Waryn Ebelhar, extending the lead to 21-0.
The Aces’ defense was equally dominant, with Jude Cecil and senior Jaiden Amburgey each grabbing interceptions to keep Fort Campbell off the scoreboard. Atwell capitalized on the turnovers, connecting with Ebelhar for an 8-yard touchdown to end the first quarter up 28-0.
Owensboro Catholic’s defense continued to stifle Fort Campbell, and Miles Edge added to the lead with a 13-yard rushing touchdown in the second quarter, giving the Aces a 42-0 advantage at halftime.
In the fourth quarter, sophomore quarterback Dremail Carothers connected with Riley Harville for a 40-yard touchdown pass. A successful two-point conversion capped the score at 50-0.
“We were solid in all phases of the game tonight, and I’m proud of the effort we put out there,” head coach Jason Morris said. “We’re focused on improving in a few areas, like making those tough catches, tightening up our kickoff coverage, and, most importantly, getting everyone healthy as we move forward.”
The Aces will face North Hardin at home on Friday as they look to finish the regular season undefeated.
