Owensboro Catholic continued its dominant season with a commanding 44-0 victory over Edmonson County on Friday night, keeping their perfect record intact.

The Aces took an early lead in the first quarter when Vince Carrico rushed for an 8-yard touchdown, putting Catholic up 7-0. The score remained until the second quarter when Miles Edge broke free for a 12-yard touchdown run.

Atwell then capped off another drive with a 1-yard score, extending the lead to 21-0 with seven minutes left in the second quarter. The senior quarterback accounted for four touchdowns in the game, adding another 1-yard rushing score late in the half.

As time expired, Kicker Andrew Gavin tacked on a 45-yard field goal, making it 31-0 at the break.

Owensboro Catholic’s offense didn’t slow down in the second half. Atwell connected with Hayden Crowe for a 10-yard touchdown pass to make it 37-0 before finding J. James for another score, sealing the 44-0 victory.

Despite the big win, head coach Jason Morris said there are still things to clean up as they look ahead to their next game.

“We didn’t come out tonight hitting on all cylinders on offense,” Morris said. “As the competition gets tougher, we’ll need to put four quarters together.”

Morris praised how his team bounced back after the fall break bye week and took care of business.

“We really had a good week of practice, and the boys were focused. I’m just excited about where our team culture is right now,” he said.

The Aces have been on an impressive run over the last three years, and Morris understands how special this group is.

“I’ve been doing this long enough now to really appreciate it because I understand that you don’t always have groups of boys this talented,” Morris said. “These last two years, well maybe three,  have to rank up there with two of the better teams put together at Owensboro Catholic.”

Owensboro Catholic remains undefeated and will face Fort Campbell on the road next Friday.
