It was smooth sailing for Trinity in Tuesday night’s 12th district volleyball championship, with the Lady Raiders cruising to a 3-0 (25-19, 25-21, 26-24) win over Grayson County. This marked the team’s 10th title since joining the 12th District in 2010 and the first under head coach Brooke Hall.
It was an impressive district tournament run for the Lady Raiders, who didn’t drop a single set against Butler County in the first round or in the championship game. After taking the first two sets against Grayson County, Trinity had to claw their way back in the third set to secure the sweep.
“I told the girls to stay confident, but not get too comfortable,” Hall said. “They needed to trust each other and continue to play the game the way we had practiced. I’m incredibly proud of how they came together as a unit and never gave up, even when we were behind.”
Caroline Hall, Kenzie McDowell, and Addison Mills led the Lady Raiders in digs, assists, and kills with 27, 26, and 12, respectively. Trinity now will look to win the 3rd Region tournament, which will be held at McLean County beginning on October 28.
“These girls are goal-oriented, and before the season began, they set a goal to redeem themselves from district last year,” Hall said. “Five of our varsity starters never played in the positions they are in this year. They have adapted a lot over the season and I am incredibly proud of their ability to adapt and keep growing. I’m more proud of them for working hard to make those goals a reality.”
