Hancock County continued its impressive season Friday night with a 45-7 win over Hopkins County Central, boosting the Hornets’ record to 8-1.

Senior Chris Gillispie opened the scoring with a rushing touchdown, followed by a successful PAT from freshman kicker Uziel Munguia, giving Hancock County an early 7-0 lead. Quarterback Dylan Morris then extended the lead with a keeper for a touchdown, and soon after, senior Hayden Shearn returned an interception for a touchdown, putting the Hornets up 21-0 with 3:31 remaining in the first quarter.

Morris scored another touchdown on the ground to widen the lead to 28-0 in the second quarter. Hopkins County Central briefly answered with a touchdown pass to make it 28-7, but Hancock County quickly regained momentum. Senior Wyatt Emmick added a rushing touchdown, and Munguia’s PATs kept the score at a solid 35-7 by halftime.

The Hornets maintained control through the second half, as Munguia nailed a 21-yard field goal late in the third quarter, bringing the score to 38-7. Sophomore quarterback Brady Eubanks rounded out the scoring with a keeper, sealing the win at 45-7.

Dylan Morris went 8-11 on the night with 342 total yards — 168 in the air. Wyatt Emmick led the backfield with 79 yards and one touchdown, followed by Morris with two touchdowns.

Eubanks praised his team’s resilience after a tough loss to Union County last week.

“The guys bounced back really well,” Eubanks said. “They came out with energy, and they were ready to get back on track, which shows their character and focus.”

Hancock County will finish the regular season on the road against Grayson County next Friday.
