Trinity took down Owensboro in a thrilling five-set match, Apollo outlasted Breckinridge County, and Owensboro Catholic to Logan County in Thursday’s volleyball matchups.

Trinity 3, Owensboro 2

Kenzie McDowell had another massive game, leading the Lady Raiders in assists and blocks with 30 and six as Trinity narrowly edged out Owensboro 3-2 (19-25, 25-19, 25-14, 20-15, 15-7). Addison Mills finished with 10 kills, while Caroline Hall recorded a team-high 29 digs. Ava Coomes was also a menace at the net, blocking four shots.

“I am really proud of our team,” Trinity head coach Brooke Hall said. “When you play a really tough team with heavy offense you rely on your defense to pull through and your block plays a critical role in that, as well as your libero. Our net presence helped a lot tonight. It’s still early in the season, but I’d say this gives us the confidence to keep growing.”

For the Lady Devils, Addie Travis led the way with team-highs in kills and digs with 18 and 15 each. Anna Travis recorded 25 assists, nine digs, eight kills, and two service aces, while Ava Fincher posted 16 assists, 11 digs, and three kills.

“Trinity did a great job of keeping the ball alive and keeping the pressure on us and we weren’t able to execute at a high level tonight, and we just had too many errors,” Owensboro head coach Melissa Hibbs said.

Apollo 3, Breckinridge County 2

Abie Butterworth led the team with 22 kills and added 15 digs, three blocks, and three service aces as the E-Gals outlasted Breckinridge County 3-2 (25-20, 25-21, 23-25, 24-26, 25-8). Jessica Lee recorded 42 assists, 12 digs, and one service ace while Avery Gray added 18 digs, 13 kills, one service ace, and one block. Jessie Pate and Kadi Daughtery also had double-digit digs with 20 and 14, respectively.

“It was a tough win on the road tonight,” Apollo head coach Mary Howard said. “I was very proud of how hard our girls battled all night long and never gave up. Breckinridge County has a tremendously well-balanced and aggressive squad. Every set was a battle. Our defense really locked in during the fifth set and helped us to get the separation we needed to come out on top.”

Daviess County 3, Butler County 0

Looking to bounce back after losing to Apollo earlier this week, the Lady Panthers dominated Butler County, cruising to a 3-0 (25-12, 25-7, 25-18) sweep. Daviess County had a balanced attack, with 11 players recording at least one kill. Maya Pollard and Haylee Clark tied for the team lead in kills, with six each, while Lily Farmer finished with 16 assists and eight digs.

“I am very pleased with the way we came out. It was Senior Night so it was a special night and I am happy to get the win,” Daviess County head coach Tyla Bailey said. “We wanted to start strong, finish strong, carry the momentum, and positive energy.”

Logan County 3, Owensboro Catholic 0

Olivia Castlen led the team with 10 kills and added 10 digs as the Lady Aces had no answer for Logan County, losing 3-0 (28-25, 25-19, 30-28). Andi Davis led the team with 25 digs, while Mayme Powell and Reese Keller both led the way with nine assists a piece.
