Hancock County remains undefeated after a dramatic 27-24 victory over Tell City on Friday night, capped by a last-second touchdown pass from senior quarterback Dylan Morris.
With 39 seconds remaining, the Marksmen had reclaimed the lead 24-21, but the Hornets weren’t done. Morris launched a 30-yard pass to sophomore Christian Yanez, who caught it in the end zone as time expired, sealing the win for Hancock County.
The game had been a back-and-forth battle, with Tell City striking first on a 36-yard field goal in the opening quarter. The Hornets struggled to get things going, often plagued by penalties in the first half.
They finally found the end zone with just 23 seconds left in the first half, when Morris connected with senior Jaxson Morris for a touchdown, narrowing Tell City’s lead to 10-7.
In the second half, Tell City extended their lead to 17-7 before junior Cooper Jones brought the Hornets’ crowd to its feet with a 90-yard kickoff return for a touchdown. The Hornets then took their first lead of the night when sophomore quarterback Brady Eubanks scored on a 5-yard keeper early in the fourth quarter.
Tell City responded with a late touchdown drive to go up 24-21, but Morris and the Hornets engineered one final push, culminating in the game-winning touchdown as time expired.
Morris finished with 62 rushing yards and two passing touchdowns, completing 15 of 24 attempts for 150 yards. Hancock County totaled 109 rushing yards as a team.
The Hornets will face Trigg County at home next Friday.
