Girls’ Soccer Roundup, Sep. 24: AHS, MCHS, OHS

Apollo, McLean County, and Owensboro all won their respective games in girls’ soccer action Tuesday night.

Apollo 8, Warren Central 0

Kara Green scored four times and added two assists in Apollo’s 8-0 shoutout win against Warren Central. Lili Ruth, Thwey Wah, Jada Pollard, and Millie Hill also all scored, while Rith and Pollard each added two assists.

“I thought tonight was a good performance to get us going after such a tough week last week,” Apollo head coach Zach Akin said. “I think we moved the ball well and are really putting together things together as we get closer to tournament play.”

McLean County 5, Union County 1

Landry Humphrey recorded another hat trick, this time scoring four goals and adding an assist in McLean County’s 5-1 win over Union County. Katie McCoy added the other goal, while Danielle Reynolds recorded an assist.

“This was a special win because it was Senior Night,” McLean County head coach Ricky Humphrey said. “We have been playing much better team soccer at the right time as the district tournament is around the corner.”

OHS 2, Warren East 1

Lily Nieman scored twice with assists from Lili-Paige Early and Amelia Calhoun in the Red Devil’s 2-1 victory over Warren East. The game was called after the first half due to a continued lightning delay.

“We played very well during the first half,” Owensboro head coach Sarah Poole said. “We were down some players tonight, but played as a unit, possessing, and putting together some dangerous plays that resulted in both of our goals.”
