Brady Atwell hit Waryn Ebelhar for a 75-yard touchdown on the first play from scrimmage, and Owensboro Catholic never looked back as they cruised past Greenwood 49-16 to move to 3-0 Friday night.

The Gators went 3-and-out on their opening drive, and Atwell returned to Ebelhar for another trip to the end zone — this time from 52 yards out.

Another 3-and-out from Greenwood gave Catholic the ball on their own 35, but Atwell threw an interception to set the Gators up on the Aces’ 25. However, a 32-yard field goal attempt kept Greenwood off the board and Catholic went back to work.

A 55-yard run by Vince Carrico set up a 12-yard touchdown carry by Atwell, putting the Aces up 21-0 late in the first quarter.

It was more of the same in the second quarter, with Catholic’s defense keeping Greenwood in check while the offense continued to roll. A 10-yard touchdown catch by Dereon Crowe and a 6-yard keeper by Atwell pushed the Aces’ advantage to 35-0 by halftime.

Atwell connected with Crowe again for a 4-yard touchdown pass to bump the lead to 42-0 before the Gators got on the board.

Greenwood got a pair of touchdowns and 2-point conversions late, with another Catholic score sandwiched in the middle thanks to a 25-yard pass from Dremail Carrothers to Noah Grant.

Catholic will return home next week to host Owensboro, rounding out their slate of city-county matchups.
