Apollo, Owensboro, and Owensboro Catholic all picked up wins, while Daviess County, Hancock County, and McLean County all fell short in local volleyball action Tuesday night.
Apollo 3, Grayson County 0
Abie Butterworth had a team-high 12 kills for the E-Gals in their 3-0 (25-18, 25-22, 25-13) clean sweep over Grayson County. Ava Fazio finished with eight blocks and seven kills, while Jessie Pate had 14 digs. Jessica Lee led the team in assists with 16.
“We had a great opening night with a 3-0 victory against a strong opponent in Grayson County,” Apollo head coach MarryAnne Howard said. “Our blocking at the net was very strong tonight and I felt like that had a huge impact on the game and kept momentum in our favor at many points throughout the match.”
Hopkins County 3, McLean County 0
Addy Kirby led McLean County with seven kills and seven assists, but it wasn’t enough as the Lady Hornets fell short to Hopkins County 3-0 (18-25, 18-25, 21-25).
“We played extremely well, but we just didn’t have enough for a primarily senior team,” McLean head coach Traci Capps said. “We look ahead now to the Summer Slam in Owensboro on Friday and Saturday.”
Owesnboro 3, Muhlenberg County 1
Addie Travis led the team with 18 kills and added six digs and four blocks in Owensboro’s 3-1 (25-15, 16-25, 25-20, 25-16) victory over Muhlenberg County. Anna Travis recorded a whopping 50 assists while finishing with five digs, three blocks, and one kill.
Owensboro Catholic 3, Daviess County 0
Jaiden Grant led the way with 15 kills, two blocks, and two digs in Owensboro Catholic’s 3-0 (25-18, 25-10, 25-22) sweep over Daviess County. Reese Keller and Mayme Powell finished with double-digit assists —16 and 13, respectively.
Trinity 3, Hancock County 0
Addison Mills posted 12 kills and Kenzie McDowell recorded 20 assists in Trinity’s 3-0 (25-17, 25-23, 25-11) sweep over Hancock County.
“First match of the season – first win of the season,” Trinity head coach Brooke Hall said. “I’d say it’s a great start. We are still messing with lineups and challenging ourselves to be multidimensional. Our team’s athletic ability as well as their passion for this game is just incredible. We hope to use tonight as a foundation for future success.”
