The Daviess County Lady Panthers claimed five of the top 14 spots as they sprinted to a 1st-place finish on Tuesday at the Kentucky/Indiana Border Clash at Yellow Creek Park, with the Owensboro Catholic Lady Aces taking 3rd. In the boys’ race, Daviess County and Apollo finished 3rd and 4th, respectively. Other area teams also competed in the event.

GIRLS

The Lady Panthers posted a team score of 46, easily outpacing 2nd-place Jasper’s 63.

“I am super proud. They ran exactly the way we wanted them to,” Daviess County head coach Josh Bratcher said. “We focused on staying together to the mile and continue to try and move up in smaller packs from here.”

Senior Lucy Spaw led the way for the Lady Panthers, finishing third overall with a time of 19:37.7. Rounding out the team’s times were Ellie Girten (7th, 20:05.0), Julia Zopiyactle (9th, 20:17.9), Sally Tidwell (13th, 20:43.05), and Kloee Gaynor (14th, 20:44.6).

“We were missing a couple of our usual top-10 performers, but we had several girls step up. Our goal is going to be to keep training the pack and once again keep people healthy. If we do that, we will be in good shape,” Bratcher said.

Owensboro Catholic finished 3rd with a score of 79, as all five scoring runners finished in the top 25. Peyton Reid (5th, 19:48.8) led the way for the Lady Aces, followed by Scarlett Isenbarger (12th, 20:41.6), Caroline Wathen (19th, 21:17.3), Ainsley Sutter (20th, 21:21.5), and Isabeth Osborne (23rd, 22:14.2).

Owensboro finished 6th and was led by Abby Ladwig (22nd, 22:08.01).

Apollo placed 10th with their top finisher being Ava Falloway (26th, 22:29.01).

Ohio County’s Morgan Kobylinski had the overall best time, finishing in 18:49.09.

Hancock County does not have enough runners to officially make up a team score, but their top runner was Isabella Ross, who finished with a time of 23:27.7.

BOYS

Daviess County had five runners finish in the top 20 scoring times but it wasn’t quite enough to earn the title, as they finished third overall. Their team score of 68 was behind Castle’s 57 and Jasper’s 58.

Leading the Panthers and finishing 4th overall was Asher Alvey, who ran a 16:09.9. Rounding out their scores were Luca Neves (12th, 17:11.2), Nikolas Hodskins (13th, 12:12.3), Ben Nunley (19th, 17:39.7), and Asher Doughty (20th, 17:47.6).

“The guys ran the plan well today. We held back on the first mile to emphasize the pack mentality and then pushed the pace after that,” Daviess County head coach Josh Bratcher said.” We had our number two runner drop out with a minor injury. That being said, the team still delivered a great performance.”

Apollo placed 4th with a team score of 94 behind a pair of top-10 finishers in Emmitt Brock (2nd, 15:57.2) and Noah Gray (6th, 16:23.1).

Owensboro placed 8th and was led by Dylan Fulkerson (40th, 19:09.6), while Owensboro Catholic placed 10th and was led by Ben Booker (30th, 18:40.8).

Hancock County does not have enough runners to officially make up a team score, but their top runner was Emmitt Meserve, who finished with a time of 17:44.9
