Facing some of the best runners in the state, the Daviess County Lady Panthers cross country team finished third in the Tiger Run in Louisville. The DC boys’ team finished 11th.
The Lady Panthers scored a 97, with all seven of their runners finishing in the top 60.
Lucy Spaw led the way with a time of 19:38.03, finishing 11th overall. Julia Zopiyactle (15th, 20:07.32), Chaney Heady (21st, 20:22.76), Sally Tidwell (26th, 20:37.10), and Ellie Girten (39th, 21:11.33) rounded out the scoring runners.
The boys’ team was led by Asher Alvey (22nd, 15:59.73). Other scoring runners were Lucca Neves (77th, 17:16.37), Ben Nunley (82nd, 17:26.42), Nikolas Hodskins (85th, 17:30.21), and Asher Doughty (105th, 17:47.86).
“Both of our teams finished with solid performances going against the best teams in the state,” Daviess County head coach Josh Bratcher said.
At the same time, Owensboro boys’ cross country competed at the Warren East Raider Twighlight Invitational and finished fifth out of 18th teams. Dylan Fulkerson (28th, 19:07.28), Juan David Lopez Quintana (29th, 19:09.03), Ace Skimehorn (31st,19.12.40), Isrell Roberts (34th, 19:19.09), Owen Moore (35th, 19:20.15), and Camden Johnson (48th, 19:36.15) all ran for the Red Devils.
“Quintana, Skimehorn, and Moore all had new personal best times for 5k,” Owensboro head coach Griffen Kelley said. “Fulkerson and Johnson set new season bests and Roberts who is only a freshman made his 5k debut with a solid time. 174 runners in the race and we had five finish in the top 35.”
