2024 Season Previews
Golf: The Cougars return two of their top players from last year in junior Wyatt Gatton and senior Carter Weldon. They are joined by plenty of new golfers, but two that have stood out are freshmen Carsen Webb and Treyson Blades.
On the girls’ side, only Macie Caraway returned.
“We are so young that our main goal is to continue to improve in all facets of our game,” head coach Stephen Riggs said. We need to find ways to recruit and keep girls in the program. We started out with several young ladies willing to give it a try but in the end, only Macie Caraway stayed with us.”
Girls’ Soccer: McClean County plays a 4-4-2 style with a primary focus on controlling possession and the pace of play. Returning are midfielders Alma Perez and Shelby Hawley, forward Danielle Reynolds, and goalie Emily LeBlanc. Joining them are up-and-comers forward Landry Humphrey and defender Braelyn Thomas.
“We want to compete,” head coach Ricky Humphrey said. “My message to my players is that I want them to be better in October than they are in July.”
Volleyball: With only three upperclassmen on the roster including senior Rachel Robers and juniors Hadley Young and Ragan Brown, McLean County is undergoing a youth movement. Sophomores Abbi Shivers and Addy Kirby are expected to take the next step and are joined by freshman Marybeth Miller.
“We want to see the girls have fun with the game,” head coach Traci Capps said. “I believe that a successful season will follow.”
