The district 9 and district 12 tournaments began play today as Daviess County eliminated Owensboro, and Trinity was narrowly defeated by Butler County.
DCHS 7, OHS 1
Daviess County took on Owensboro in the first round of the district 9 tournament, and the Lady Panthers won 7-1 to move on to the championship. With this defeat the Lady Red Devils end their season with a record of 7-17.
Daviess County opened the scoring with a big 3-run performance in the first inning. OHS held DC scoreless in the second, but DCHS added another run to their lead in the third. The Lady Panthers put the score up to 6-0 in the fourth with 2 more runs, and they scored their final run in the sixth before Owensboro scored 1 run in the seventh.
On the mound for DC was Kamryn Timmons who racked up 11 strikeouts and allowed just 2 hits across 5 innings, and Sophia Cain who had 1 strikeout and allowed 1 hit across 2 innings. At the plate, Annie Newman led with 3 RBIs, 4 hits and 2 runs scored. Sadie Morris hit 2 doubles, had 1 RBI and scored 2 runs. Callie Smith hit a double and scored 1 run while Danielle Beckwith and Briley Henry both scored 1 run.
On the mound for OHS was Alyssa Rhineburger who allowed 9 hits across 3 innings and Railey Scott who allowed 5 hits across 3 innings. At the plate, Hessi Johnson hit a home run for the sole run of the game.
Butler Co. 3, THS 2
Trinity suffered an early exit from the district 12 tournament after they just barely fell short 3-2 against Butler County. The Lady Raiders finished their season with a record of 15-10.
The game started off evenly as neither team could take an early lead in the first inning. Trinity opened the scoring in the next inning with 1 run, but Butler took the lead in the third with 2 runs. After the fourth inning went scoreless, both teams added 1 run each to their tally in the fifth. With Butler leading 3-2, THS struggled to find the tying run in the last two innings as they were defeated 3-2.
On the mound for the Lady Raiders was Sophie Hatfield who had 2 strikeouts and allowed just 2 hits across 7 innings. At the plate, Georgia Howard hit a double and had 1 RBI. Kiersten Mills and Kylie Hatfield scored 1 run each.
