Softball recap: AHS, DCHS, OCHS

Owensboro Catholic is hosting the Owensboro Catholic Classic this weekend, and both OCHS and Apollo secured wins in their respective games. Meanwhile, Daviess County hosted a successful game against Woodford County. 

AHS 7, LaRue Co. 4

After losing their opening game to Trigg County 4-1, Apollo bounced back with a 7-4 win in the Owensboro Catholic Classic over LaRue County. 

Apollo opened the scoring in the top of the first inning with 1 run, but LaRue took the lead in the bottom of the inning with 2 runs. The E-gals then scored 3 runs to put the score at 4-2 in the top of the second, and LaRue tied the game back up with 2 more runs in the bottom of the inning. AHS kept up their momentum in the next inning by scoring 1 run and taking the lead. Apollo held off LaRue in the fourth while extending their lead with 2 runs. They shut down LaRue in the fifth to close out the 7-4 win. 

On the mound for the E-gals was Hannah Holder who pitched for 1 inning, and Mollie Julian who had 2 strikeouts across 4 innings. At the plate, Arianna Ramirez hit a double, had 2 RBIs, and had 3 hits. Madalyn Roberts had 2 RBIs, and Taylor Clark and Mallory Velotta both had 1 RBI. Velotta also scored 2 runs, Clark scored 1, and Tyler Hall, Macy Calhoun, Abbie Butterworth and Grace Parker all scored 1 each as well. 

DCHS 8, Woodford Co. 1

Daviess County had no trouble taking down Woodford County on the road 8-1. 

Woodford scored first and only run in the opening inning, and it didn’t take for DC to get that run back in the second. With the score tied 1-1, the Lady Panthers took the lead with 3 runs in the third, and they extended their lead with another 3 runs in the fourth inning. After a scoreless fifth, Daviess County closed out the game with a final run in the sixth inning. The final score was 8–1. 

On the mound for the Lady Panthers was Sophia Cain with 3 strikeouts across 5 innings, and Kamryn Timmons with 5 strikeouts in the final 2 innings. At the plate, Annie Newman led the team with a double, 3 RBIs and 1 run scored. Sadie Morris had 1 RBI, 3 hits and 3 runs scored. Danielle Beckwith and Shelby Bennett both hit a double, had 1 RBI and scored 1 run. Callie Smith had 1 RBI, and Kylie Clark scored 1 run. 

OCHS 3, Trigg Co. 2

Owensboro Catholic played their first game in the OC Classic against Trigg County. They defeated Trigg in a close 3-2 victory. 

The game started off evenly as the first two innings went scoreless. Trigg struck first with a run in the third inning. While OCHS struggled to get on the board, Trigg added another run to their lead in the fourth. The fifth inning saw the Lady Aces spring to life with 3 runs to take the lead, OCHS then locked down Trigg on defense for the sixth inning, and they secured the win at 3-2. 

On the mound for the Lady Aces was Hannah Robbins who recorded 5 strikeouts across 6 innings. At the plate, Maren Riney had 2 RBIs, and Kailey Hamilton had 1 RBI with 1 run scored. Hannah Tignor and Taylor Winstead both scored 1 run each as well.
