Owensboro Catholic pulled off a big late game comeback to beat Owensboro 8-5 and move on to the district championship game. The Red Devils led 5-0 going into the sixth inning, but the Aces scored 8 runs in the bottom of the inning to steal the win. The Aces will face off against the Eagles today at 6 p.m. for the district championship.
After a scoreless opening inning, Owensboro took the lead in the second with 2 runs. OHS held Owensboro Catholic scoreless for the next three innings while they scored 3 more runs and put their lead at 5-0. After Catholic shut down OHS in the top of the sixth, Parker Heistand scored from third off a wild pitch to get OCHS on the board, and Houston Flynn was walked to get the bases loaded. In a series of at-bats, Brady Atwell was hit by a pitch which scored Mason Moser from third, Deuce Sims watched ball 4 go by to allow Eli Blair to score, Christopher Burns also watched the fourth ball pass him to let Drew Miles cross home plate for the tying run and Heistand capped it off with a line drive down the center to run in Sims, Burns and Barrett Evans for an 8-5 scoreline.
On the mound for the Aces was Luke Quinn who had 1 strikeout and allowed 5 hits across 3 innings. Along with Heistand’s double was his 3 RBIs and 1 scored run. Sims, Burns and Evans all had 1 RBI and scored 1 run each, and Atwell had 1 RBI as well. Flynn, Moser and Blair all scored 1 run each.
On the mound for the Red Devils was Cayden Ray who had 5 strikeouts and allowed 5 hits across 5.1 innings, Will Hume who pitched for 0.1 innings and Lake Wilson who had 1 strikeout and allowed 2 hits across 0.1 innings. Evan Hampton led at the plate with a triple, 4 RBIs and 1 scored run. Wilson had 1 RBI as well, and Hume and Blake Kimbrell both hit doubles. Hume also scored 2 runs while Trevor DeLacey and Will Rickard both scored 1.
