Trinity hosted the local Owensboro Knights and secured the only win on the day. Owensboro was defeated by Bowling Green at home while Owensboro Catholic had a defeat on the road against Greenwood.
Bowling Green 7, OHS 3
Owensboro hosted Bowling Green at home, but they fell short and were defeated 7-3.
Bowling Green struck first and took a 3-run lead in the first inning. After a scoreless second inning, Bowling Green added another run in the top of the third. The Red Devils got on the board with a run in the bottom of the inning, and they closed the gap to 4-3 with 2 more runs in the fourth. The fifth inning went scoreless, and Bowling Green extended their lead with 3 runs in the sixth while OHS fought to claw back. The game was out of reach however, and Bowling Green took the win 7-3.
On the mound for the Red Devils was Will Hume who recorded 4 strikeouts and allowed 6 hits across 5.2 innings, and Will Rickard who allowed 3 hits across 1.1 innings. At the plate, Evan Hampton hit a double and had 2 RBIs. Ty Ashley had 1 RBI, and runs were scored by Rickard, Caden Ray and Trevor DeLacey.
Greenwood 1, OCHS 0
Owensboro Catholic took to the road and faced off against Greenwood in a game where defenses shined, but OCHS narrowly lost 1-0.
The first and only run in the game was scored by Greenwood in the first inning. This set the stage for a 6-inning standoff between the two teams. Leading the Aces defense on the mound was Jaxson White, who recorded 7 strikeouts and allowed 5 hits across 5 innings, and Ben Hyland closed out the game allowing 1 hit in 1 inning. OCHS couldn’t break through on offense, but Houston Flynn had 2 hits, and Brady Atwell and Parker Heistand both had 1 hit.
THS 9, Owensboro Knights 8
Trinity played at home against the Owensboro Knights in a close game that saw them win 9-8.
Trinity opened the scoring with a run in the first inning. The second inning saw THS take their lead to 3-0, but the Knights would get on the board with a run in the next inning. After a scoreless fourth inning, the Raiders put their lead to 4-1 in the fifth with another run. The Knights cut the gap with 2 runs in the top of the sixth, but Cale Boarman hit an impressive inside the park grand slam in the bottom of the inning to give the Raiders an 8-3 lead. The Knights then had a big 5-run performance in the top of the final inning to tie the game at 8-8.
In the bottom of the seventh, Connor Hatfield’s single put him on first base. Hatfield then stole second base, and then made his way to third thanks to an error by the pitcher. The error gave Hatfield just enough time to reach home plate for the winning run and the 9-8 victory.
On the mound for the Raiders was Hayden Aull who racked up 13 strikeouts and allowed 11 hits across 7 innings. Boarman’s grand slam netted him 4 RBIs along with his 2 scored runs. Greyson Howard hit a double to go along with his 2 RBIs. Hatfield had an RBI and 1 run scored, and Aull had 1 RBI as well. Rylan Cecil scored 2 runs, and Keaton Abbott, Nate Terry and Landon Boarman all scored 1 run each.
