Baseball recap (April 30): DCHS, OHS vs. OCHS

Owensboro Catholic took down rivals Owensboro after trailing by 7 runs. Meanwhile, Daviess County had success on the road as they took down Henderson County.

DCHS 11, Henderson Co. 4

Daviess County had a big 11-4 win on the road against Henderson County. 

Both teams came out swinging as DCHS led 4-3 after the first inning. The Panthers extended their lead with 3 more runs in the second before another 2 runs in the third gave them a comfortable 9-3 cushion. After a scoreless fourth inning, both teams scored 1 run in the fifth inning. DC closed out the game with 1 more run in the sixth inning for a final score of 11-4. 

On the mound, Logan Mewes had 2 strikeouts in 5 innings while allowing 5 hits, Brody Tucker had 2 strikeouts in 1 inning and Gage Hagan had 1 strikeout in 1 inning. At the plate, Mewes hit a double and had 2 RBIs, and Noah Ranburger had 2 RBI as well. Lucas Ward had 1 RBI, 3 hits and 2 runs scored. Gavin Howard hit a double, had 1 RBI and scored 1 run, and Brody Brubaker had 1 RBI with 2 runs scored. Carter Nichols scored 2 runs, and Cameron Rickard and Brett Poole both scored 1 run. 

OCHS 15, OHS 7

The Aces and Red Devils rivalry heated up today as a high scoring game saw Owensboro Catholic come back from a 7-0 deficit to win 15-7. With this win the Aces are 5-1 in district pay and the Red Devils are 1-4.

OHS struck first in the opening inning with 1 run. They added 2 more runs in the second inning before both teams went scoreless in the third. The Red Devils kept their momentum going by scoring 4 more runs in the fourth inning to give them a 7-0 cushion over Catholic. However, the Aces sprung to life and had a 9-run performance to take the lead. OCHS scored 2 more in the sixth inning, and they put the nail in the coffin with 4 more runs in the seventh. They took the win 15-7. 

On the for the Aces was Brady Prusz had 1 strikeout and allowed 6 hits across 3.1 innings, Judge Evans pitched for 0.2 innings and Luke Quinn had 3 strikeouts across 3 innings allowing 1 hit. At the plate, Deuce Sims hit a home run, 2 RBIs and 2 runs scored. Houston Flynn and Christopher Burns both had 2 RBIs and scored 1 run each. Barrett Evans hit 2 doubles, had 1 RBI and scored 3 runs, and Brady Atwell hit double, had 1 RBI and scored 2 runs. Jaxson White and Eli Blair both had 1 RBI and 1 run scored, and Parker Heistand had 1 RBI as well. Mason Moser scored 1 run on the night also. 

The Red Devils had multiple pitchers take the mound as Cayden Ray had 4 strikeouts in 4.2 innings, Kaleb Ashley and Will Hume both pitched .1 innings, Will Rickard pitched for 0.2 innings and Bradin Fountain had 2 strikeouts in 1.1 innings. At the plate, Ray had 1 RBI and 2 runs scored, Lake Wilson had 1 RBI and 1 run scored and Evan Hampton and Ty Ashley both had 1 RBI. Hume, Rickard, Trevor DeLacey and Brady Benjamin all scored 1 run each.
