Tennis recap (April 16): AHS, DCHS, OHS, OCHS

Apollo, Daviess County and Owensboro Catholic all picked up wins with both their boys’ and girls’ teams, and the Lady Red Devils had a victory on the day as well. 

AHS

Apollo took down Hancock County with their girls’ team winning 4-1 and the boys taking the 3-2 win. 

The girls had big 8-1 wins by Afina Winters and Anna Dilback and an 8-2 win by Adelyn Dilback. On the boys’ side, Jamison Franey won 8-3 and Ben Austin won 8-5 in singles. In doubles, Maddox Tucker and Connor O’Bryan won 8-3. 

DCHS

The Lady Panthers defeated Meade County 5-0 and the Panther etched out a 3-2 win over Meade as well. 

The girls clean sweep was achieved by 6-1 wins by Alessaa Hall and Emmie Williams and an 8-4 win by Jana Coomes in singles. In doubles, Ella Boswell and Alexa Salamah won 6-0 while Maddy Brown and Annalee Yager won 6-1. 

For the boys, Yuga Kani had a big 8-0 win and Matthew Dunlay won 6-0 in singles. In doubles Eli Bivens and Max Stenett won a close 7-6 match before winning 6-1. 

OHS

Owensboro took on Muhlenberg where the girls’ team won comfortably at 7-2 while the boys were defeated 6-3.

Leading the girls was Ella Carter with a big 8-0 win. Whitley Ford contributed an 8-2 win, and in doubles the duo of Ellie Watson/Ford won 8-0 while Anna Travis/Carsyn Cecil won 8-1.

On the boys’ side, Romer Payne and Broderick Devine both had singles wins with Payne securing an 8-4 win while Devine won 8-5. Devine and John Clay Ford had the only win in doubles with a solid 8-0 performance.

OCHS

The Lady Aces had a dominant 9-0 performance over Edmonson County while the boys’ team won 2-1. 

The girls’ team had lots of big wins in singles as Madison Clark, Christina Head, Savannah Lewis and Mary Grace Edge all won 8-0, and Lexie Moyers and Molly Meyer both won 8-1. They continued to run wild in doubles with Paige and Reagan Hamilton winning 8-0, Betsy Moore and Annabelle Hancock winning 8-1 and Meredith Taylor and Sophia Merchant winning 8-2. 

The boys had 2 wins from Ben Haines, who won 8-0, and Nick Williams, who won 8-2.
