Daviess County began play in the Castle Invitational in Newburgh, IN where they will go up against some of the top teams in Indiana. Owensboro Catholic concluded play in the Florida Softball Beach Bash, and they and Trinity will both compete in the 3rd Region All “A” classic starting April 8. Trinity also saw action today against Louisville Butler.
Gibson Southern, IN 4, DCHS 3
Daviess County began the Castle Invitational with a close 4-3 loss over Gibson Southern.
Daviess County gained an early lead with a single run in the first inning. Gibson Southern tied the game in the next inning with a run of their own. Both teams held one another scoreless for the next three innings before Gibson scored a key run in the sixth inning. Both teams scored 2 runs in the final innings, but GiBson Southern took the win 4-3.
On the mound for the Lady Panthers was Sophia Cain who pitched the first three innings and recorded 3 strikeouts, and Kamryn Timmons pitched the final 4 innings where she racked up 9 strikeouts. At the plate, Makayla Rowan had an RBI and 1 run scored, and Addie Newman had an RBI as well. Sadie Morris hit a double and scored 1 run, and Rowan and Briley Henry both hit doubles as well.
OCHS 16, Choctawhatchee (Fort Walton Beach), FL 0
Owensboro Catholic got one more win before they head back home as they defeated Choctawhatchee in a 16-0 blowout victory to end the Florida Softball Beach Bash.
The game lasted all of 3 innings as Catholic heated up fast with 11 runs in the opening inning. After holding Choctawhatchee scoreless, they scored 5 more runs to further increase their lead. Neither team scored in the third inning and the game was called.
Hannah Robbins hit a home run for the Lady Aces to go along with her 2 RBIs and 2 scored runs. Maren Riney had 2 RBIs and 2 hits, and Tyranda Stuart hit a triple, had 1 RBI and 2 scored runs as well. Hannah Tignor and Kailey Hamilton both had 1 RBI and scored 2 runs, Harper Latham had an RBI and 1 run scored and Gracie Dukate scored 2 runs as well.
On the mound was Riney who had 2 Strikeouts in 3 innings and didn’t allow any bases.
Louisville Butler 5, THS 3
Trinity took to the road to take on Butler where they barely fell short in a 5-3 defeat.
The first two innings saw neither team gain the upper hand. Butler struck first in the second inning with a single run to take the lead. Trinity was held down by Butler for three innings as they extended their lead with 3 runs across the third, fourth and fifth innings. Trinity clawed their way back late in the game with 3 runs to tie it in the top of the sixth, but Butler scored 2 final runs in the bottom of the sixth before holding THS scoreless in the seventh to close out the game at 5-3.
Kendall Howard led at the plate with a double, 2 RBIs, 2 hits and 1 run scored. Ella Morris had 1 RBI and Madison McDaniel scored 1 run. McDaniel and Sophie Hatfield both hit a double as well. On the mound was Hatfield who had 2 strikeouts.
