Softball recap (April 25): AHS, DCHS vs. OHS, OCHS, THS

Daviess County continues to dominate the district as they took down Owensboro to win their 8th game in a row. Trinity also kept their win streak alive after beating Warren Central for a 7th straight win. Apollo won their 5th straight game after taking down Jasper, IN, and Owensboro Catholic had success as well, winning against Madisonville-North Hopkins. 

AHS 7, Jasper, IN 3

Apollo hosted Indiana team Jasper at home where they secured a 7-3 win. 

Apollo opened scoring with 2 runs in the first inning before both teams held each other scoreless in the second and third innings. AHS extended their lead with 2 more runs in the fourth, but Jasper closed the gap quickly with 3 runs in the fifth to put the score at 4-3. Apollo held off Jasper in the final two innings while scoring 3 runs in the sixth to secure the 7-3 win. 

On the mound, Mollie Julian recorded 5 strikeouts across 5 innings, and Hannah Holder had 1 strikeout in 2 innings. Taylor Clark led at the plate with a double, 4 hits, 1 RBI and 3 runs scored. Arianna Ramirez had an RBI and scored 1 run, and Tyler Hall and Liza Page both had 1 RBI. Mallory Velotta scored 2 runs as well. 

DCHS, 10, OHS 0

Daviess County had no trouble taking down Owensboro 10-0 to move themselves to 6-0 in district play. The Lady Red Devils now sit 0-5 in district. 

Daviess County scored 1 run for an early lead in the first inning, and they continued to pick up steam with 2 runs in the second. OHS struggled to get past DC’s defense, and the Lady Panthers continued their success at the plate with 4 more runs in the third inning. DCHS added 2 more runs in the fourth before a final run in the fifth ended the game 10-0. 

Kamryn Timmons had a commanding game on the mound as she racked up 11 strikeouts while only allowing 1 hit throughout the game. At the plate, Molly Hancock hit 3 doubles, had 4 hits, 1 RBI and scored 2 runs. Sadie Morris hit a double, and both her and Briley Henry had 2 RBIs and scored 2 runs each. Callie Smith, Shelby Bennett and Kylie Clark all had 1 RBI, and runs were scored by Makayla Rowan who scored 2 and Annie Newman who scored 1.

On the mound for the Lady Red Devils was Railey Scott who had 1 strikeout in 2.1 innings, and Alyssa Rhineburger who pitched 2.1 innings. 

OCHS 7, Madisonville-North Hopkins 2

Owensboro Catholic secured a comfortable 7-2 win at home over Madisonville. 

Madisonville struck first with a run in the opening inning, but Catholic quickly tied the game up with a run of their own in the second. Catholic took the lead in the third inning with a big 4-run performance, and Madisonville scored their second and final run in the bottom of the inning. The Lady Aces held Madisonville scoreless for the remainder of the game while they scored a run in the fourth and sixth innings to get the 7-2 win. 

On the mound was Hannah Robbins who recorded 8 strikeouts and allowed 4 hits across 7 innings. The Lady Aces had two players hit home runs as Robbins herself hit one, and Harper Latham hit the other. They both had 1 RBI and Latham scored 2 runs while Robbins scored 1. Maren Riney had 2 RBIs and scored 1 run, and Gracie Dukate had 2 RBIs as well. Runs were scored by Tyranda Stuart, Hannah Tignor and Lily Logsdon. 

THS 18, Warren Central 2

Trinity adds yet another blowout win to their season tally with a big 18-2 win over Warren Central. 

After the first inning went scoreless, THS jumped out ahead with 5 runs in the second inning. They added 1 more run to their lead in the top of the third before Warren Central got on the scoreboard with their only 2 runs in the bottom of the inning. After scoring 2 runs in the fourth, the Lady Raiders offense ran wild in the fifth inning scoring an impressive 10 runs to close out the game at 18-2. 

Sophie Hatfield had another big game on the mound as she racked up 10 strikeouts and only allowed 4 hits throughout the game. THS had a whopping 15 hits at the plate, and Hatfield led on offense as well with 2 doubles, 3 RBIs, 3 hits and 2 runs scored. Emma Whitehouse hit a triple, had 2 RBIs and scored 2 runs. Georgia Howard hit 2 doubles, had 2 RBIs, 3 hits and scored 2 runs, and Ella Morris hit 2 doubles, had 2 RBIs and 2 scored runs as well. Kendall Howard had 2 RBIs, and Kylie Howard, who hit 2 doubles, and Hope Boarman both had 1 RBI and scored 2 runs. Madison McDaniel had 1 RBI and scored 1 run, and Sarah Payne scored 2 runs as well.
