Daviess County remains undefeated in the district after Sophia Cain’s no-hitter helped defeat Owensboro Catholic, and Trinity moved their hot streak to 6 wins in a row with a victory over Grayson County. Owensboro saw big success today also as they had a commanding win over Breckinridge County.
DCHS 7, OCHS 0
Daviess County had a comfortable 7-0 win over Owensboro Catholic to further cement their place at the top of the district. After this win the Lady Panthers are 5-0 and the Lady Aces are 2-2.
After a scoreless opening inning, DCHS took a 4-0 lead in the second thanks to a home run by Sadie Morris that scored 3 runs. Catholic shut down Daviess County in the third, but the Lady Panthers pounced again in the fourth with 3 runs to take their lead to 7-0. OCHS struggled to get past DC’s defense as they were held scoreless in the final innings. The final score was 7-0.
Cain threw a no-hitter with 7 strikeouts across 7 innings. Morris led the team at the plate with a home run, 4 RBIs and 1 run. Shelby Bennett had 2 RBIs and Kylie Clark had 1. Scoring runs for DC was Clark and Makayla Rowan with 2 runs each and Briley Henry who scored 1.
On the mound for the Lady Aces was Hannah Robbins who recorded 2 strikeouts across 6 innings.
OHS 19, Breckinridge Co. 8
Owensboro took to the road where they had a high-scoring 19-8 win over Breckinridge County.
The game started out evenly as the first two innings saw neither team take an advantage. Both teams heated up in the third however, as the score was tied 3-3 going into the fourth. OHS extended their lead by 2 runs in the fourth while holding back Breckinridge. The Lady Red Devils then had a big 7-runn performance in the fifth, and Breckinridge scored 1 in the bottom of the inning to put the score at 12-4. After the sixth inning saw both teams score 1 run, Owensboro made the most of their last at-bat by scoring 6 to run away with the lead. Breckinridge scored 3 in the bottom of the inning, but Owensboro took the win 19-8.
On the mound for the Lady Red Devils was Railey Scott with 2 strikeouts across 4 innings and Alyssa Rhineburger 4 strikeouts in 3 innings. Rhineburger contributed at the plate as well with a home run, 4 RBIs and 2 scored runs. Ashleigh Howard had a big game as well with a home run of her own, a double, 5 RBIs, 5 hits and 2 runs scored. Hessi Johnson hit 2 doubles, had 3 RBIs, 4 hits and scored 3 runs. Ellington Embry had 2 RBI, 4 hits, and 2 runs scored. Ayrish Barksdale and Reese Boswell both had 1 RBI, and Boswell scored 2 runs while Barksdale scored 1. Addison Hill scored 4 runs and Emmi Connor scored 2 runs as well.
THS 16, Grayson Co. 1
A big third inning hoisted Trinity to a 16-1 blowout win at home against Grayson County.
Trinity got things moving early on with a run in the opening inning. After a scoreless second inning, the Lady Raiders ran wild with an 11-run performance in the third. Grayson scored 1 run in the top of the fourth, but THS closed out the game early with 4 final runs for a final score of 16-1.
On the mound for the Lady Raiders was Sophie Hatfield who had 3 strikeouts and allowed 3 hits over 4 innings. Hatfield also led at the plate with a home run, 4 RBIs and 1 scored run. Kendall Howard hit 2 doubles, had 3 RBIs, 3 hits and scored 2 runs. Madison McDaniel hit a double, had 3 RBIs, 3 hits and 3 runs scored. Sarah Payne hit a triple, a double, had 1 RBI, 4 hits and 4 runs scored. Ella Morris and Emma Whitehouse both had 1 RBI, and Kylie Hatfield scored 1 run as well.
