Baseball recap (April 5): OCHS

Owensboro Catholic concluded their play in the Panama City Beach Bash with a doubleheader that saw them beat Marshall County and lose against Frederick Douglass. The next time the Aces will take to the field will be for the 3rd Region All “A” Classic. 

Catholic came out on top in a battle against Marshall County that ended 8-6. OCHS struck first with a run in the top of the first inning, but Marshall took the lead with 2 runs to close out the inning. The Aces took back the lead in the second inning with a big 3-run performance. They added another run to their lead in the top of the third, but Marshall scored 3 runs to tie the game at 5-5. After the fourth inning went scoreless, OCHS stole the lead back with 3 runs in the fifth. Marshall got 1 run back in the bottom of the fifth, but OCHS shut them down in the final 2 innings to seal the win at 8-6. 

On the mound was Brady Prusz and Lane Hundley who combined for 3 strikeouts during the game. At the plate, Eli Blair had 2 RBIs and scored 2 runs. Brady Atwell hit a double and both he and Deuce Sims each had an RBI and scored 1 run. Jaxson White and Parker Heistand both scored 2 runs during the game as well. 

Owensboro Catholic also took on Frederick Douglass in a close game that ended with Catholic narrowly losing 3-2. Both teams got on the scoreboard early with a single run. Douglass took the lead in the next inning with a run after shutting down OCHS. The lead didn’t last long as the Aces got the run back in the third inning to tie the game again. After a scoreless fourth inning, Douglass scored what would be the winning run in the bottom of the fifth inning, OCHS fought to tie the score, but both teams went scoreless in the final innings and the game finished 3-2. 

Atwell hit a double to go along with his 2 scored runs, and Barrett Evans had 1 RBI. White and Luke Quinn helped keep the game close on the mound as White had 4 strikeouts across 4 innings and Quinn had 1 in 1 inning.
