Daviess County continued play in the Fort Walton Beach Bash with a defeat against Sayre, and Owensboro Catholic continued their good form in the Panama City Beach Bash with another big win over Tift County (Tifton), GA.
Sayre 14, DCHS 4
Daviess County faced off against Sayre where they suffered a 14-4 defeat.
Sayre struck first in the opening inning to put DC at an early disadvantage. After the second inning went scoreless, Daviess County found success at the plate and scored 3 runs in the top of the third to take the lead. Sayre tied the score up shortly after with 2 runs in the bottom of the inning. After DC took the lead with a run in the top of the fourth, Sayre gained a big cushion as they scored 5 runs in the bottom of the inning. DCHS fought to bring the score back, but Sayre held them scoreless in the fifth and scored 6 runs to close out the game at 14-4.
Cameron Rickard led at the plate with a double, 2 RBIs, and 1 run scored. Brody Brubaker had an RBIs along with a run scored, and Carter Nichols and Toby Morris both scored 1 run each as well. On the mound was Brett Poole who had 3 strikeouts.
OCHS 12, Tift Co., GA 2
Owensboro Catholic took down Georgia side Tift County in a big 12-2 win in their third game of the Panama City Beach Bash.
Catholic got to work early as they quickly amassed a 7-run lead by the end of the first inning. They held Tift scoreless in the second while adding another 2 runs to their lead. Tift struck back in the third inning with 2 runs, but OCHS got those 2 runs right back in the bottom of the inning. After holding Tift scoreless in the fourth inning, Catholic closed out the win with a final run to end the game at 12-2.
On the mound was Ben Hyland who recorded 5 strikeouts across 5 innings. At the plate, Eli Blair hit a double, had 3 RBIs and scored 1 run. Parker Heistand had 2 RBIs and 1 run scored. Barrett Evans had 2 RBIs and scored 2 runs. Brady Atwell hit a triple, had an RBI, 2 hits and 1 scored run. Houston Flynn hit a double, had an RBI and scored 1 run.
