Owensboro Catholic were crowned All “A” State Champions after they defeated Pikeville 3-1 in the semis, and finally they defeated Lyon County 7-3 in the championship game.

Catholic’s semifinal game saw them play a great defensive game in a low-scoring 3-1 win over Pikeville. OCHS scored their first run in the first inning. Barrett Evans was on the mound for 6 innings and recorded 7 strikeouts while allowing 3 hits to help keep Pikeville scoreless for up until the final inning. Meanwhile, Catholic would add a run to their lead in the third inning and 1 in the fifth inning. Pikeville got on the board with their only run in the seventh, but Jaxson White helped close out the game at 3-1 with a 1 strikeout on the mound in the final inning.

Deuce Sims hit a home run to score the Aces final run. Brady Atwell hit a triple for his RBI and White had an RBI as well. The other two runs were scored by Houston Flynn.

The Aces then took down Lyon County 7-3 in the championship game to lift the All “A” State title. After Lyon scored 1 run in the top of the first, Owensboro Catholic shot ahead with a big 5-run performance in the bottom of the opening inning. With the score at 5-1, OCHS then locked down on defense again with Ben Hyland on the mound. Hyland had 4 strikeouts and allowed 3 hits while helping the defense shut down Lyon for innings 2-5. Although they struggled to add their lead across those same innings, they broke through once again and scored 2 final runs in the sixth inning. Lyon also finally broke through Catholic’s defense in the final inning with 2 runs, but it was too little too late as OCHS took the 7-3 win and the All “A” State Championship.

Myles Grant and Brady Prusz came in as relief for 1 inning each following Hyland. Sims came up with a home run again along with 3 RBIs and a scored run. Eli Blair, Parker Heistand and White all had 1 RBI and 1 run scored, and Flynn and Evans scored 1 run each as well.
