All the Owensboro schools saw action during the unfavorable wind conditions, and Trinity, Owensboro and Owensboro Catholic all walked away victorious at the end of the day. Apollo and Daviess County were defeated by Henderson and Gordonsville, TN respectively.
Henderson Co. 19, AHS 7
Apollo hosted Henderson County at home where they suffered a tough 19-7 loss.
The first inning saw both teams fairly matched as Apollo held a 3-2 lead early on. Henderson began to gain steam however as they took the lead after a big 9-run performance in the second inning. Apollo added 2 more runs to their tally in the bottom of the same inning, but Henderson increased their lead further in the third with 5 more runs to put the score at 16-5. Apollo scored again in the fifth inning with 2 runs, but Henderson closed out the game with 3 runs in the seventh inning to close the game at 19-7.
Macy Calhoun led the team at the plate with a home run, 3 RBIs and she scored 1 run as well. Arianna Ramirez hit a home run along with her 2 scored runs and RBI. Liza Page scored a run and hit a double during the game as well.
Gordonsville, TN 4, DCHS 2
Daviess County hosted Tennessee team Gordonsville in a close game that saw DCHS fall short 4-2.
Both teams held one another from scoring until Gordonsville hit a single home run to open the scoring. Daviess County tied up the game at the bottom of the third with a run of their own. The next inning went scoreless before DC took the lead with a run in the bottom of the fifth inning. The top of the sixth saw Gordonsville immediately hit another homerun to tie the game again at 2-2. DCHS failed to score in the sixth inning, and Gordonsville scored the eventual game winning runs at the top of the seventh. DC failed to score again in the seventh, and the game ended 4-2.
This game was a battle of the pitchers as Kamryn Timmons had 14 strikeouts and Gordonsville’s Kailey Plumlee had 15. Plumlee was the deciding factor on offense as well as she hit two homeruns to lead Gordonsville. Annie Newman had 2 RBIs and runs were scored by Kylie Clark and Sadie Morris.
OHS 11, Union County 8
Owensboro battled it out with Union County at home where they were victorious 11-8.
Alyssa Rhineburger had 4 RBIs, hit 2 doubles and scored 2 runs off of 3 hits. Hessi Johnson and Emmi Connor had 2 RBIs, hit 2 doubles and scored 1 run each. Anna Hamilton hit 2 doubles as well and had 2 RBIs. On the mound Railey Scott recorded 3 strikeouts during the game.
OCHS 8, Ohio Co. 2
Owensboro Catholic took to the road to take on Ohio County in a game that saw them win comfortably 8-2.
Owensboro Catholic struck first in the first inning taking the lead with a single run. Ohio would tie the game up in the second inning, but Catholic took their lead back in the third with another run. They extended their lead considerably after a 4-run performance in the fourth inning. Ohio scored a run in the fifth before OCHS closed out the game with 2 final runs in the sixth inning. OC went home with the 8-2 win.
Lily Logsdon led the team at the plate with a homerun, 4 RBIs and 2 scored runs. Hannah Robbins hit a homerun as well as having 1 RBI and 1 scored run. On the mound was Robbins who recorded 8 strikeouts.
THS 3, Breckinridge Co. 2
Trinity came out on top in a close 3-2 game against Breckinridge County at home.
Trinity took the lead early in the game as they scored 2 runs in the opening inning. Both teams held one another scoreless for three innings straight until both teams scored 1 run in the fifth. Tensions rose after THS held Breckinridge scoreless in the sixth, but couldn’t add to their lead. Breckinridge scored a run in the top of the seventh, but Trinity kept them from tying the game and ended the game 3-2.
Kendall Howard had 2 RBIs and Sophie Hatfield had 1 RBI, and both players hit doubles as well. Emma Whitehouse hit a triple also. On the mound was Hatfield who recorded 6 strikeouts while only allowing 2 hits.
