Owensboro Catholic bested Owensboro in a city-county matchup while Apollo and Daviess County both secured hard fought wins.
AHS 7, Hancock Co. 4
Apollo took down Hancock County at home 7-4.
Mollie Julian played a big role in the win as she had 9 strikeouts and only allowed 2 runs off of 3 hits. Tyler Hall had 3 RBIs along with a homerun, and Mallory Velotta had 2 RBIs and a homerun as well. Macy Calhoun hit a double during the game also.
DCHS 6, Greenwood 5
Daviess County faced off against Greenwood in a close game where they took the 6-5 win in the final inning.
Both teams held one another to a stalemate for the first three innings of the game. Greenwood struck first with 3 runs in the fourth inning. DCHS would score 3 runs in the following inning, but Greenwood scored 2 runs to extend their lead to 5-3. After a scoreless sixth inning, Daviess County came back and won the game after Annie Newman hit a single, Danielle Beckwith was walked and Makayla Rowan was hit by a pitch, all of which scored 1 run each.
Newman led the team at the plate with 3 RBIs off of 2 hits. Sadie Morris scored 2 runs in, and Beckwith, Rowan and Shelby Bennett all had 1 RBI. On the mound was Sophia Cain who recorded 6 strikeouts.
OCHS 6, OHS 4
Owensboro hosted Owensboro Catholic in a game that saw OCHS take home the win 6-4.
Both teams got warmed up early on as OC scored 2 runs and OHS scored 1 in the first inning. After the second inning went scoreless, both teams added one more run to their scores in the third inning. The fourth inning was quiet with no scores, but Catholic extended their lead to 4-2 after scoring a run in the fifth inning. Owensboro struck back with 2 runs in the sixth, but OCHS scored another run to keep their cushion. Catholic closed out the game with a final run in the seventh while shutting down Owensboro to win 6-4.
For Owensboro Catholic, Tyranda Stuart had 3 RBIs and scored 1 run off of 2 hits, and Maci Merritt hit a homerun and had 2 RBIs and scored 1 run off of 2 hits as well. Gracie Dukate hit a double for her RBI. For Owensboro, Alyssa Rhineburger, Elli Embry and Ayrish Barksdale all had 1 RBI each. Hessi Johnson hit a double during the game as well.
On the mound for OCHS was Hannah Robbins who recorded 4 strikeouts. For OHS Rhineburger had 5 strikeouts.
