Daviess County opened up their season with a doubleheader where they came out with two wins. Apollo hosted Ohio County at home and just fell short of a win.
Ohio Co. 6, AHS 4
Apollo fought hard, but they just fell short of catching Ohio County in their 6-4 defeat.
Ohio scored first in the first inning to open the game. AHS fell behind even further after Ohio had a big second inning with 4 runs. The E-gals began to make stuff happen on offense in the third inning as they scored 2 runs to cut the gap. Ohio scored another run at the top of the fourth inning, and Apollo added 2 runs to their tally as well. The next three innings went scoreless, and AHS lost 6-4.
Tyler Hall had 2 RBIs, and Mallory Velotta and Taylor Clark had 1 each. Velotta and Clark also both hit a double. On the mound was Mollie Julian who recorded 5 strikeouts.
DCHS
Daviess County opened their season with a doubleheader in which they beat Harrison County 8-4 and Assumption 7-3.
The first game saw Harrison go up early with 3 runs in the first inning. DC wouldn’t score until the third inning where they had one run. In the fourth both teams scored a single run before DCHS scored 5 runs across the fifth and sixth innings to run away with the lead and the 8-4 win.
The second game DC took a 4 run lead early in the first inning. After Assumption scored 1 run in the second inning the game went scoreless for two innings until Assumptions cut the lead down with another run in the fifth. Daviess County closed out the game by scoring 3 runs to Assumption’s 1 in the final two innings.
Briley Henry hit a homerun in each game, and Sadie Morris had 1. Morris, Henry, Callie Smith and Kenzi Howard all had 2 RBIs each across both games. Kamryn Timmons got 6 strikeouts against Harrison, and Sophia Cain recorded 5 against Assumption.
