Softball recap (March 11): OCHS, THS

The 2024 softball season kicked off today with Owensboro Catholic and Trinity both having played their openers at home. Catholic defeated Butler County in a close win white Trinity fell to Union County.

OCHS 7, Butler Co. 6

Owensboro Catholic started the new season on a high note as they clinched a close 7-6 win over Butler County. 

The Lady Aces came out swinging as they quickly amassed a 4-1 lead after the first inning. They steadily increased their lead throughout the game as they scored one run in the second, third and sixth innings. Meanwhile on the mound, Lady Aces pitcher Hannah Robbins recorded 11 strikeouts to hold back Butler. Butler caught some momentum late in the game as they scored 5 runs at the top of the 6th inning. However, home runs throughout the game by Robbins and Lily Logsdon helped secure their lead, and they closed out the win at 7-6. 

OCHS didn’t have any batters strikeout during the game, and Logsdon led the team in runs with 3 while Robbins, Stuart and Kailey Hamilton all had one each. Logsdon and Hannah Tignor both had two RBIs, and Logsdon along with Maci Merritt and Tyranda Stuart all had one. 

Union County 6, THS 4

Trinity just fell short in their home opener against Union County as they were defeated 6-4.

The game started off evenly as both teams were at a stalemate through the first two innings. Union struck first in the third inning, and added 2 more to their tally in the fourth inning. Trinity scored their first run in the fourth inning, and took the lead in the fifth with 3 runs. Union scored 3 runs in the sixth inning and shut down THS to close out the game at 6-4. 

On the mound Lady Raiders pitcher Sophie Hatfield had 8 strikeouts during the game. Kendall Howard recorded 2 RBIs and Sarah Payne and Madison McDaniel both had 1. McDaniel, Hatfield, Ella Morris and Georgia Howard all scored one run each for the Lady Raiders.
