Owensboro Archery Club

Owensboro Archery Club earned their national title after shooting a perfect score of 1500 points. The team placed 4th in both the Youth and Eagle divisions and 6th in the Jr. Eagle division. OAC coach Adam Logsdon said the team had been training all year for the championship knowing they would have to be in top form to compete with the best in the nation.

“They’ve worked extremely hard all year, shooting thousands of arrows and critiquing their form, just for this moment,” he said.”It came down to the last few arrows and the margin of victory was razor thin. When you compete against the best, everything has to fall your way. With our top 5 scores they all had a clean two rounds shooting 1500 out 1500 points.”

Poe earned the title of National Champion of the Young Adult Pins Class, and Keely Sanders won the National Championship in the Eagle Women Pins Class.

Poe said his countless hours of practice along with the help of his coaches and teammates saw his dreams of a National Championship come true.

“A National Championship is what I’ve dreamed of since the beginning,” he said. “I struggled for a few years and had to really dig deep into the mental portion of archery to get to the point I’m at today. I have great coaches and teammates who really help push me. I’ve put in countless hours behind the bow to get here, and it feels amazing!

Sanders earned her National Championship after lots of practice working her technique,

“I started this season with a new release that was harder and scarier to use,” she said. “I had to have a lot of faith in myself and try my best to get used to it. I put in a lot of practice and work in order to accomplish my goal! I was really proud of myself for being the Girls Eagle National Champion! I was a little scared and nervous during my flight times because I didn’t want to hit any 4’s or 5’s. I knew I had to have a good attitude if I wanted to shoot my best.”
