Trinity’s defense held a grip on Grayson in the second to keep them from extending their lead by too much. The Lady Raiders trailed 19-15 at halftime. Both teams found more success on offense in the third as Trinity scored 11 points, but Grayson extended their lead with 15 of their own. Grayson closed out the game with 15 points to Trinity’s 6. The final score was 54-32.
Leading the Lady Raiders in scoring was Sarah Payne with 2 threes and 15 points.
The Lady Raiders finished out their season with a record of 1-24. Despite the team’s many injuries during the season, head coach Emily Hernandez said the Lady Raiders fought through the adversity and still came out having grown as a team.
“It was a tough season plagued by injury and illness,” she said. “The team had at least one player out in 14 of our 24 games. With five high school players and seven middle school players, it was tough to figure out with all the inconsistency. Although we won one ballgame, the girls competed the majority of nights even through the adversity. Some people would describe the season as a tough one, but from my perspective these girls worked hard, improved daily and I saw so much growth!
“You can learn a lot through adversity,” she said. “Some people may see a young team that had a rough season, but I see a strong group of 12 girls who kept up the fight, worked together to get better and braved the storms! There is so much potential in this group and I look forward to watching these Lady Raiders continue to grow in the years to come.”
