Boys’ Basketball recap (Feb. 2): AHS vs. OHS, THS

The city-county gameday saw Owensboro take down Apollo in a comfortable 68-45. Meanwhile, Trinity suffered a tough loss against regional opponents Edmonson County.

OHS 68, AHS 45

Keaton Hughes had a big 29-point game to lead Owensboro to a 68-45 win over Apollo. The Red Devils now sit 11-8 on the season and 6-2 in regional play.

Hughes led the team with a double-double of 29 points and 12 rebounds. He also shot 5 of 5 from the free throw line. Michael Acton and Dayshaun Sanders followed behind with 13 points each. Luke Jarboe led the Eagles in scoring with 2 threes and 11 points. Eli Williams followed behind with 2 threes and 9 points on the night.

Edmonson Co. 84, THS 52

Despite putting up a good scoring effort, Trinity fell 84-52 against Edmonson County. 

Trinity got their offense into motion early on as they scored 12 points in the first quarter, but they couldn’t hold back Edmonson and trailed 24-12 going into the second quarter. The Raiders found more success on defense as they managed to keep the scoring closer at 13-12 in the quarter, but they still were down 37-24 going into halftime. Bransen Howard and Cale Boarman both had three pointers in the quarter to help THS to 15 points in the third quarter, but Edmonson extended their lead by scoring 22. Hayden Aull’s 3 threes in the final quarter helped Trinity in their 13-point effort, but Edmonson closed out the game at 84-52. 

Aull led the Raiders in scoring with 14 points and 4 total three pointers. Will Hernandez scored 12 points on the night as well.
