Owensboro Catholic and Trinity went head-to-head in the All “A” Classic semifinal while Owensboro took on Hopkinsville in the City of Hopkinsville Holiday Classic.
OHS 56, Hopkinsville 41
Owensboro had no trouble taking down Hopkinsville 56-41 in the City of Hopkinsville Holiday Classic. OHS trailed by a single point early on as the first quarter ended 12-11. Both teams scored 9 points in the second quarter, so Hopkinsville went into halftime still holding the single-point lead. The Lady Red Devils turned the game on its head in the third quarter as they outscored Hopkinsville 24-9 in the quarter to gain a 44-31 advantage. Both teams scored 12 points in the final quarter for Owensboro to secure the win at 56-41.
Leading the Lady Red Devils in scoring was Unique Carter-Swanagan with 19 points and 2 three-pointers. Shalyn Sprinkles had the next highest points with 14 along with 2 made three-pointers as well.
OCHS 77, THS 33
Owensboro Catholic made 9 three-pointers on their way to a 77-33 win over Trinity. Catholic will go on to play Hancock County in the final on Monday, January 8. The Lady Aces wasted no time getting down to business as they amassed a 32-5 lead in the first quarter. This was Trinity’s lowest scoring quarter as their offense scored 11 in the second quarter and 11 in the third quarter, but it was not enough to keep up with Catholic as the final score ended 77-33.
Karmin Riley scored all 15 of her points from 5 three-pointers as she led the Lady Red Devils in scoring. Hailee Johnson had the next highest points with 13 that included 2 three-pointers. Aubrey Randolph scored 11 points during the game as well.
Leading the Lady Raiders in scoring was Sarah Payne with 12 points. Payne also finished with a high FT% as she shot 5 of 6 from the line. Madison McDaniel had the next highest points with 8 that included 2 three-pointers.
