Boys’ Basketball recap (Jan. 8): AHS, OCHS

Owensboro Catholic went home with another All “A” title after beating McLean County in the final. Meanwhile, Apollo had a massive blowout victory scoring a season-high 92 points. 

AHS 92, Cloverport 32

Apollo showed no mercy to Cloverport as they beat them by a 60-point difference at 92-32. They quickly gained a 10-point lead at 18-8 by the end of the first quarter. The second quarter is where the Eagles gained most of their momentum by scoring 29 points and making 5 three-pointers while holding Cloverport to just 2 points. Despite having a 47-10 lead at halftime, AHS continued their offensive as they scored another 45 points in the second half to win 92-32. 

The Eagles had four players score in double digits on their way to their massive win. Eli Williams and Tate Powers both had 15 points as well as a batch of three-pointers as Williams had 3 and Powers had 2. Luke Jarboe followed behind with 13 points, and Caiden Tutt scored 12 as well. Kayden Green scored all 9 of his points from his 3 three-pointers. 

OCHS 64, McLean Co. 53

Owensboro Catholic once again clinched the All “A” title after taking down McLean County 64-53. They will move on to compete in the Kentucky All “A” tournament.

Both teams came out strong as only a single point separated the two at 16-15 in favor of McLean. The Aces took the lead in the second quarter by outscoring McLean 16-11 to go into halftime at 31-27. Both teams fought for the lead in the third quarter, but Luke Beickman’s 10 points in the quarter helped them hold onto their lead going into the fourth. The Aces held off McLean in the final quarter and outscored them 14-11 to close out the championship game at 64-53.

Beickman had an impressive 26 points and a 100% FT% after shooting 7 of 7 to lead the Aces in scoring. Solly Smith, Waryn Ebelhar and Dylan Hagan all scored 10 points, and Tutt Carrico had 8 to round out scoring.
