This week’s city-county games in district play saw Owensboro snap Daviess County’s 11-game win streak and Owensboro Catholic move to 2-2 in district after beating Apollo.
OCHS 49, AHS 36
Owensboro Catholic defeated Apollo 49-36 to move to 2-2 in district and Apollo to 1-3.
Tutt Carrico’s 9 points in the first quarter set the tempo early by helping OCHS gain an early 17-10 lead. Catholic held on to their lead going into halftime at 28-18. Eli Williams had 8 of Apollo’s 10 points in the third quarter in an effort to close the gap. OCHS shut down any hopes of clawing back as they outscored AHS 13-8 in the fourth quarter to close out the game at 49-36.
Leading the Aces in scoring was Luke Beickman alongside Carrico with 16 points each.
Kobe Kelly led the Eagles in scoring with 14 points and a high FT% as he shot 8 of 9 from the line. Williams followed behind with 11 points and a perfect 4 of 4 from the free throw line.
OHS 74, DCHS 68
Owensboro came out on top in a high-scoring battle against Daviess County to snap their 11-game win streak with a 74-68 win of their own. Owensboro are now 2-2 in the district and Daviess County are 3-1.
Both teams started out the game strong as Daviess County came out of the first quarter with a slight 20-16 advantage. The second quarter saw offenses continue to shine as both teams were neck and neck with DCHS scoring 19 points to OHS’ 18 points. DC went into halftime with a 39-34 lead. Both teams battled back and forth in the third quarter with Daviess County scoring 23 points to Owensboro’s 21. After trailing 62-55, the Red Devils came into the fourth quarter and held the Panthers to only 6 points while they went on to score 19 and take the game at 74-68.
Dayshaun Sanders led the Red Devils with a 24-point performance that included 4 three pointers and 6 of 8 on free throws. Will Hume had the next highest points with 16 and 2 three pointers as well. Michael Acton scored 12 on the night as well.
Leading the Panthers in scoring was Jonathan Moss with 22 points and a high FT% after shooting 6 of 7 from the line. DeAaron Watkins went 4-5 from the three-point line as part of his 16 points. Jaxon Brown scored 13 points on the night as well.
