Owensboro’s Lake Wilson is set to continue his baseball career into college as a Pioneer after he signed to play for Transylvania University on December 6. Wilson signed to play for the team in front of a crowd filled with his family, friends and supporters in the Owensboro High School gymnasium.

Wilson said that being a college athlete was something he’s wanted since he was a little kid. His hard work and the support group behind him helped achieve his goal.

“It feels awesome knowing that I’ve worked for this and I’ve wanted this since I was a little kid,” he said. “I’ve had a great support group behind me just kinda pushing me, so it feels good for that to finally pay off.”

Wilson chose Transylvania University for their physical therapy as well as their impressive baseball program.

“They have a great baseball program and great facilities,” he said. “It’s just a great school. They have the major that I wanted as well, physical therapy. It’s a great location, and it’s not too far from home.”

The camaraderie that Wilson has come to love will be what he misses most about high school sports as he takes his talents to the next level.

“There’s nothing like going to school with a group of guys, and then right after that you go play a city-county game,” he said. “Then, say you get a base hit, and all those guys cheer for you.”

Last year at Daviess County, Wilson was second on the team in batting average with an average of .364, according to KHSAA. Wilson’s pitching stats included the most innings pitched at 39.2 and 34 strikeouts, both being the highest on the team.

Wilson will finish his high school career with his senior season this Spring for the Red Devils.
