Owensboro’s Jak Lindsey will be continuing his football career at Southern Illinois University. Lindsey recently finished his final high school season that saw him help the Red Devils make it to the semifinals of the state tournament.

Throughout his high school career, Lindsey had an overall record of 44-11 as a Red Devil. In his freshman year, Lindsey and the Red Devils made it to the state championship match, but fell to Bowling Green. The lineman then helped the team reach the semifinals for the next three years in a row.

To be able to play football in college is a blessing for Lindsey, but he said the real work starts now.

“It feels great,” he said. It’s definitely a blessing. I’ve worked really hard towards this, and it’s just a relief getting here. You know, the work really starts now, but I’m really excited.”

When making his decision on where to go to school, Lindsey was captivated by the community and people of Southern Illinois University.

“Just based off of the other colleges I visited, I just really liked Southern Illinois the best,” he said. “It’s just the people there, the community and the football itself there. I really enjoyed it along with the coaching staff. I really liked everything there.”

Southern Illinois is located in Carbondale, IL and is not too far away from Owensboro, according to Lindsey. While it may take time for him to adjust from being away from home, he said it will not take long for him to get used to being at the college. One thing he will miss about Owensboro, however, will be the support of the city Owensboro during games.

“I’ll miss the Friday night lights with the whole town watching you play and supporting you,” he said. “Just the whole town is on your back, and I’ll definitely miss Rash Stadium.”
