In their respective tournaments, Daviess County and Owensboro Catholic picked up wins while Apollo were defeated.
Edmonson Co. 53, AHS 39
Apollo lost their second game in the Rafferty’s/Double Dogs Caveland Classic 53-39 against Edmonson County. The game started off evenly as the first quarter ended 10-10. Apollo fell behind during the second quarter and trailed 32-16 at halftime. AHS couldn’t close the gap and lost 53-39.
Leading the E-gals in scoring was Jenna Dant with a 23-point performance. Dant also shot 7 of 9 from the free throw line. Following behind was Jennifer Lee with 10 points.
DCHS 53, Wayne Co. 42
Daviess County began their run in the Independence Bank Kentucky-Indiana Classic with a 53-42. Daviess County started off trailing 13-10 at the end of the first quarter. They took the lead after outscoring Wayne 17-8 in the second quarter to lead 27-21 at halftime. They held onto their lead for the rest of the game to win 53-42.
Leading the Lady Panthers in scoring was Kennedy Lane with 19 points, and she shot 3 of 3 from the free throw line. Briley Henry and Lily Hoagland both had 11 points during the game as well.
OCHS 58, Simon Kenton 51
Owensboro Catholic won their third game in the Queen of the Commonwealth tournament against Simon Kenton 58-51. Simmon Kenton came out strong with an early 21-9 lead at the end of the first quarter. Catholic closed the gap to just 7 points by halftime at 33-26. By the end of the third quarter OCHS were only down by 2 at 43-41. They completed the comeback by outscoring Simon Kenton 17-8 in the 4th quarter to win 58-51.
Leading the Lady Aces in scoring Hailee Johnson with 19 points, and she shot 6 of 8 from the free throw line as well. Catholic had two other players score in double digits with Karmin RIley having 12 points and Delaney Cooper with 11 points.
